Board, Donors Celebrate Center Dedication

The Royce and Pam Money Student Recreation and Wellness Center officially was dedicated Saturday, with members of the Abilene Christian University Board of Trustees and Alumni Advisory Board touring the facility and recognizing the major donors who contributed a significant portion of the building’s $21 million cost.

Board members and donors stood in the Bullock and Anthony Lobby while the facility’s student workers watched from the balconies overhead as Phil Boone, vice president of Advancement, thanked those who played a role in funding and constructing the Money Center.

The grand opening is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday.

After the ceremony, board members and donors were given tours of the facility. Here, Advancement officer Kayla Stringer takes a picture of Joe Hawkins and his wife, Kaye Price-Hawkins, with a plaque commemorating their sponsorship of the facility’s southeast outdoor balcony.

Two large signs in the first hallway off the Bullock and Anthony lobby commemorate donors to the Money Center (above) and to the original Gibson Health and Physical Education Center the new facility replaces (below).

 

But facilities on a university campus are nothing without the students – those who will use them and those who help them run, such as these women found taking a break from giving tours back in the administrative reception area:
