Welcome<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prayer &#8211; Chris Ballard<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Approval of Minutes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Old Business<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>New Business<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>About my role exercise \u2013 Emily Berry<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Was a departmental advisor for 1.5 years before centralized advising<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now advises music, theater and Bible majors<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gets to be very intentional with students, one on one time with students highly valued<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Easier to transition students from one advisor to another as students change majors<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Good real time data on when classes are full and how many students are in need of a certain class<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Helps to be in Wildcat Central because she can connect students to resources, many of which are in Wildcat Central or Student Life. \u00a0She \u00a0can walk them to the appropriate person.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Advises 300 people<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWildcat Central is where students go to get help\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Four full time financial aid employees assigned by alphabet in Wildcat Central<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">18 student staff<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">21 full \u00a0time employees<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Bylaw vote<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Questions brought before ad-hoc committee:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ACU Dallas &#8211; at one point, Dallas Staff had their own HR department, that is no longer true due to financial concerns<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Staff Senate &#8211; no employee distinctions<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deans cannot serve on staff senate according to the bylaws.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vote: \u00a0Requires \u2154 vote of current staff senators casting ballots<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not enough senators present in today\u2019s meeting to vote; Grant Abston joined by phone at this point<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">d\u2019angelo sands &#8211; motion to vote for all at once by-law changes at once<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Will Wyatt &#8211; seconded<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By-laws passed unanimously<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Development &amp; Recognition Committee \u2013 Potential Campus Survey<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve Rowlands: \u00a0committee wanting to collect information from staff through a survey (see attached)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">feeling of concern and anxiety across campus among staff<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senate would collect the data and share a report with senior leadership<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">data from survey would be used to find ways the senate could show appreciation to staff<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stephanie Woodlee: \u00a0can we propose edits to questions?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve &#8211; yes, we will send out a draft<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stephanie &#8211; who is considered staff? \u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve: Would \u00a0HR know?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stephanie &#8211; no, they don\u2019t know who should get the survey<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eric \u00a0&#8211; staff falls under several categories; we could create a set of filters to include for staff consideration<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve: \u00a0Who determines who gets the staff emails?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emily: \u00a0Kim Dennis \u00a0helped me send <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Curtis: \u00a0ensure that the survey doesn\u2019t trigger<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steph: \u00a0I can run this past SLT?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve: This is our survey<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Curtis: \u00a0Let\u2019s keep it at the HR level because surveys are not neutral<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve: \u00a0I want to be sensitive to everyone and I want staff to feel safe to share. \u00a0As development and recognition, there are not a lot of resources. \u00a0We would hope that people are appreciated in their own departments but that is not guaranteed. \u00a0We first need to see if staff feel appreciated and what would make them feel appreciated<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">David: \u00a0first of next year would be the soonest this would go out?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve: \u00a0If we meet and decide on this by December it could go out in December<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Staph: \u00a0What is the ultimate goal of this?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve: that the senate could understand the climate<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carolyn: \u00a0what could we do about that?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emily: \u00a0Pay isn\u2019t always the way people feel appreciated. \u00a0What are other ways staff could feel appreciated? \u00a0Are we really doing enough? \u00a0Who makes them feel appreciated? \u00a0ACU or their office or both? \u00a0ONe time pay? \u00a0Gallup Q12 &#8211; first 9 questions are from. \u00a0We added specific questions about ACU. \u00a0Are you scared you are going to lose your job?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shannon: \u00a0I don\u2019t think we intend to solve the problems, we can gather the information and think strategically. \u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emily: \u00a0US News and world report survey. \u00a0What does acu do with that? \u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve: \u00a0My goal is to assess the needs of the staff and the level of commitment \u00a0with their job. \u00a0I think we will find some areas that we can create improvement and advocate for staff. \u00a0I think we can advocate and send letters for people on different topics \u00a0These may be the right questions or the wrong questions. \u00a0That\u2019s why i wanted to run it by the senate. \u00a0I want to create a climate for gratitude not complaint.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Will: \u00a0Can we word the questions so that they foster gratitude<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eric: \u00a0ex of potential \u00a0tax on tuition breaks not captured here<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chronicle of Higher Ed also pulled from the Gallup<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I don\u2019t like answering questions I have already asked<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Can we just ask the questions we haven\u2019t asked and get results from past surveys?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An inhouse survey may not feel as anonymous<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Demonstrate to staff that you have been heard before.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve: \u00a0I like that idea. \u00a0I do think the last questions would be the most helpful to us. \u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Curtis: Yes! Communication should be strategic<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve: we could add \u00a02 questions and delete 8 questions. \u00a0\u00a0I am hearing that we want to go ahead with this<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stephanie: \u00a0Faculty senate do not send surveys through google, survey monkey<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eric: \u00a0Yes, I have an account we could use. \u00a0data would remain anonymous<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve: \u00a0Other more confidential methods<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">D\u2019angelo: \u00a0in my department we feel close, how would they know my responses come from \u00a0my department<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emily: \u00a0are you supervised by a faculty or staff member to see if they are in an academic or non-academic department <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eric: \u00a0Or you are in a department now that is huge.. Training of supervisors is very different<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Will: \u00a0How many staff members are in your department?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eric; \u00a0We could offer by ranges<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve: Who would i talk to in HR?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stephanie: \u00a0Wendy<\/span><br \/>\n<b> Future Town Hall<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b> David Beard <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">David: \u00a0On my mind and heart &#8211; concern with morale on campus. A lot of staff removed from positions due to budget situations, it is very fearful for several employees. \u00a0What is our responsibility to these people who have been released, help their families, as staff senate but as Christians.
