Service

According to ACU’s Tenure & Promotion Guidelines, “A faculty member’s service is directly related to the university’s mission statement. Service should grow out of his or her academic and professional commitments, as well as out of a generous understanding of Christian discipleship. Service may extend to the profession, the university or its constituent parts, the church, and/or the community.”

The Service section of my portfolio is divided into two subsections:

  1. Service Highlights
  2. Service Activities

Following is a list of service examples outlined in the Guidelines.

  • Advisory and consultative positions
  • Holding an office or chair
  • Committee memberships and work
  • Administrative responsibilities
  • Student organization sponsorships
  • Service awards

In addition to the criteria and examples provided in the Guidelines, the Department of Art & Design adds the following:

Examples of service in any of these areas could include, but are not limited to:

  1. External Service:
    • advising and/or consulting with non-profits, including churches
    • service with churches
    • committee membership on arts committees and associations, including board memberships
    • local talks and presentations for non-profits, including schools and civic groups
    • judging; UIL, PIA, and private school competitions
    • offices in state, regional and national organizations
    • planning and logistics for art trips
    • teaching support for other academic programs, like the honors program through art related special lectures and colloquiums
  2. Internal Service
    • organization, leadership and/or participation in bimonthly art chapel
    • organization, leadership and/or participation in weekly art Bible studies
    • maintaining, repairing, cleaning equipment used in art production
    • locating, ordering, and accounting for classroom supplies and tools
    • departmental assignments and responsibilities; slides, recruiting, art chapel, chairmanship, equipment maintenance, clean up, library liaison, supply ordering, organizing departmental reviews, gallery coordinator
    • department, college, and university committees, including chairing them
