Submitted to the Tenure & Promotion Committee,
Please accept my portfolio in support of promotion to the rank of full professor. It details my ongoing development since receiving tenure and promotion in 2007 in the areas of teaching, scholarship, service, and collegiality. My work in that time represents contributions to the Department of Language and Literature, the Adams Center for Teaching and Learning, and the Library in my current role as director of the Learning Studio with a half-time teaching position.
In each of my roles over the last seven years, I feel I’ve helped my department, my college, and the university in its pursuit of goals set out in the 21st Century Vision:
• ACU will build distinctive and innovative programs.
• ACU will deliver a unique, Christ-centered experience that draws students into community.
• ACU will expand its Christian influence and educational reach nationally and internationally.
I took the image I’ve included above on a scouting trip for a digital photography workshop I led last summer with Dr. Nil Santana. Participants were drawn from UCLA, Loyola Marymount, and CSU Channel Islands among others. It struck me as odd at the time that colleagues from southern California brought us in to help them see the beauty and richness of their state in a new light. Yet the last seven years have also helped me realize that faculty and professional staff at ACU have a great deal to contribute to the vital conversations shaping higher education.
I hope you’ll see in the reflections that follow my best effort to support a university that has shaped so many parts of my career and my character, and when possible, to contribute to the programs and creative communities that will shape its future.
