ACU’s Sustainability Day

As a member of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), ACU planned its first annual Sustainability Day.

Alumnus Drills for Water in Nicaragua

Alex Wann (’10) had the opportunity of a lifetime, spending a week in Nicaragua drilling a well for clean drinking water. 

As a renewable resources graduate student at the University of Wyoming, he received the Willard and Elaine Rhoads Scholarship for Graduate Studies in Water Resources. This lead him to volunteer with Living Water International (LWI). More »

Dr. Tom Thompson is Outstanding Alumnus of the Year

Dr. Tom Thompson graduated from ACU in 1985 with a degree in Agronomy. From there he went to Texas A&M University and earned an M.S. in Soil Chemistry and Fertility and then a Ph.D. in Soil Chemistry from Iowa State University.

In 1991, Dr. Thompson began his teaching career at the University of Arizona. He moved to Texas Tech University in 2006 and spent five years there. Since 2011, he has worked at Virginia Tech University as a Professor and Department Head of Crop and Soil Environmental Sciences. More »

John M. Powell is Young Professional of the Year

John Powell graduated from ACU in 2002 with a degree in Agribusiness. In February 2003, Powell began his career with USDA Rural Development as a Loan Assistant in the Texas State Office in Temple.

While in the State Office, Powell worked in the Community Programs division and specialized in financing multimillion dollar projects for cities, districts and nonprofit organizations throughout the state.  Powell also held several collateral duties including Business and Industry State Loan Committee member, Geographic Information Systems Coordinator and the State Environmental Coordinator. Ag Missions Luncheon 2011

The Ag Missions Luncheon was held this year on Sept. 19 during ACU Summit. Dr. Nicodemus, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science, talked about current mission-oriented A&E projects such as the raised bed gardens, Navajo Reservation work with Healing Hands International and the Medina Children’s Home trip.
