For the first time, A&E students and faculty attended The Texas Chapter of the Wildlife Society Annual Meeting on February 20-23 in Houston, Texas.

Students took part in a plant identification competition and the Quiz Bowl.

“My favorite activity of the trip was when our entire group was scared of competing against the bigger schools in the Quiz Bowl,” said Grant Lawrence, senior environmental science major from Bangs, Texas. “Then once they started asking questions, we realized we knew just as much, if not more information than our opponents.”

Students had the opportunity to network with many wildlife professionals and representatives. They also spent quality time with their professors and fellow classmates.

“I enjoyed getting to know and hang out with all the people in my department,” said Jaime Gordon, sophomore environmental science major from Spring Branch, Texas. “We went out for meals and ice cream, became better friends and learned so much together.”

Jaime and Grant both want to encourage their classmates to attend the meeting next year in Austin, Texas.

“You won’t find a better place to learn more about current wildlife issues and research and talk one-on-one with professional biologists and wildlife employees from across the state,” said Grant.
