Collegiality is a difficult section to address, partly because it is hard for me to see how others see me. I also think it is difficult because I feel like it is an integral part of what I do at ACU, so much of what I will address in the collegiality portion has already been addressed, particularly in the Service section.

When I started at ACU, I was quite young.  In fact I was closer to the age of my students than most of my colleagues.  I have benefited tremendously from the mentoring and leadership I have received from people both in and out of my department.  As now I have been at ACU for several years, I am now no longer one of the youngest faculty members. I hope that now I can serve as a help and mentor to our newer faculty.

I believe that I have made a positive contribution to the ACU community. I have tried to be a colleague who was helpful, dependable, and for the most part pleasant to be around. I have made an effort to be a part of the ACU community through participating in college and campus wide meetings, attending college events, going to Adams Center presentations, and just spending time with colleagues both on and off campus.

I feel I would be remiss without addressing the relationship with my department.  It was actually the draw of the faculty in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry that brought me to ACU.  They have been an invaluable part of my time at ACU and I cannot imagine having survived the first year of teaching without them.  I have really enjoyed the mentoring and encouragements I have received from my colleagues in this department, whether it be in departmental meetings, cleaning out a storeroom all together (even as I’m trying to convince them to throw away old computers), or just hanging out together in the conference room.
