Minter Lane

I have been a member of Minter Lane since Spring 2004.  I have been greatly blessed by this group of Christians who have become my family here in Abilene.  I love being part of a small church, because I have to be involved.  They help call me out of my own worries and into the concerns of others.  I am somewhat hesitant to put my church involvement in my portfolio, so rather than go into greater detail I will list some of my more formal service roles at Minter.

My family has been involved with the churches on the South Island of New Zealand since 1996 when I first went as part of a Harding University Summer campaign group. In 2011 and 2013, my parents and I returned to New Zealand for three weeks to teach classes at a family camp. We also had the opportunity to visit several of the congregations with which we have built a long relationship and worked to encourage members and teach classes.

ACU in conjunction with Health Talents International (HTI) has a long tradition of sending students on medical mission trips to Guatemala. Spring Break 2013, I was given the opportunity to join the ACU group as the faculty sponsor. Because I have no medical training, every day a couple of students and I went with workers from HTI to deliver food to families they support. We were able to spend time playing with children. Within this small group working with children, my main role was translating with my mediocre Spanish skills.
