“Iran Smuggles Arms to West Bank, Officials Say, to Foment Unrest With Israel,” NYT, 4-9-24.  In short, I challenge the UN Secretary General to respond to the NYT and Times of Israel stories, and explain what the UN should do in response to Iran’s malign activity.  “NYT: Iran has flooded West Bank with arms for 2 years, aims to make it next flashpoint,” Times of Israel, 4-9-24.

Now Iran threatens UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Iraq.  “Iran says it can close Hormuz Strait, views Israeli presence in UAE as threat,” Reuters, 4-9-24.

Iran helps both sides in the Ukraine War!  “US transfers thousands of seized Iranian guns, rocket launchers and munitions to Ukraine,” CNN, 4-9-24.

Can you imagine losing six years of your life?  They did.  “Iran frees jailed conservationists who worked to save cheetahs,” AP, ABC, 4-9-24.

Iran just won’t back off from its founding principle (seemingly more essential than a Shia country in contravention to Sunni Saudi Arabia) that America is the Great Satan, and that Israel is also to be condemned and attacked.  Today, with the U.S. not responsible for the Damascus attack by Israel, Iran still wants to attack American interests.  “Iranian official accuses US of giving Israel ‘green light’ to attack consulate in Syria,” Politico, 4-8-24.

“Iran is in full control of its terrorist proxies scattered across Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon, Syria, and the Palestinian territories. Its repeated rhetoric about not controlling the decisions of these factions is nothing more than a form of tactical plausible deniability and war conflict profiteering.”  See “What is the current, quiet conversation between US and Iran? – opinion,” JPost, 4-4-24.

If the building in Damascus was occupied by military, it was not protected as a diplomatic location.  Thus, Israel did not violate international law protecting diplomatic facilities.  Leaves the UN Sec Gen and the EU with egg on their face for jumping the gun before the facts are in.  “US, UK, and France block UNSC response to strike on Iran in Syria,” Reuters, 4-4-24.

Quote of the Day.  “With God’s help we will make the Zionists repent of their crime of aggression against the Iranian consulate in Damascus,” Supreme Leader Khamenei.  Terror, thus, has a religious bent for him.  “Iran ramps up threats against Israel following consulate airstrike,” Politico, 4-3-24.

This article is wrong.  Iran will respond.  And I was reminded of this, that Friday (4-5-24) is Quds Day – or Jerusalem Day – the last Friday in Ramadan, a great day Iran would think for strking.  “’Iran will not respond’: Middle East experts, dissidents comment on Damascus strike,” JPost, 4-3-24.

“‘We Will Cut Off the Hand’: Abbas’s Fatah Party Slams Iran for Interfering in Palestinian Affairs,” Algemeiner, 4-3-24.

Here’s the quote you need to read about the “consulate.”  “An embassy can lose those protections, however, if it is used for a military purpose, as is true of schools, homes, and other civilian buildings during wartime. That would first be a threshold question about whether the conflict itself is legal: International law generally prohibits the use of force against another sovereign state, except in self-defense. An Israeli military spokesman, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari did not confirm or deny Israel’s role in the attack but told CNN that the strike had targeted “a military building of Quds Forces disguised as a civilian building in Damascus.” A member of the Revolutionary Guards, which oversee the Quds Force, told the Times that the strike on Monday had targeted a meeting in which Iranian intelligence officials and Palestinian militants were discussing the war in Gaza. Among them were leaders of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a group armed and funded by Iran. Iran has long blurred the lines between its diplomatic missions and its military operations in the Middle East. It selects its ambassadors to Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen — countries that make up the “axis of resistance” — from the commanders of the Quds Forces, the external branch of the Revolutionary Guards Corps, rather than its career diplomats.”  See “Israel bombed an Iranian Embassy complex. Is that allowed?,” NYT, 4-2-24.

“Three suspects in stabbing of London-based Iranian journalist fled UK by plane ‘within hours of attack’,” Independent, 4-2-24.  “Iran International, which has been designated a terrorist organisation by Tehran, said it had faced “heavy threats” for 18 months, and noted that Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) have been targeting journalists and their families.”

Military types don’t know how to run businesses, including airlines.  But this is indication that Iran uses its airlines for nefarious purposes.  “Iran’s national airline being run by Revolutionary Guard commander,” Telegraph, 4-2-24.

“The frightening backdrop to an Iranian journalist’s stabbing in London,” Columbia Journalism Review, 4-2-24.

“Federal court: Iran, Syria must pay $191 million for murder of Ari Fuld,” JNS, 4-2-24.  “Richard Heideman, senior counsel at Heideman, Nudelman & Kalik, which represented Fuld’s estate and most of his family members in the suit, told JNS that the $191 million in damages is intended to compensate for the suffering of Fuld and his family but also to send a signal to Hamas’s sponsors. ‘The court also went one step further and assessed punitive damages, as not only a punishment of Iran and Syria but also to send a loud and clear message that the court will not countenance the continued sponsorship by Iran and Syria of terror against Americans,’ he said.”

This is no April Fool’s Day joke.  “Mohammad Reza Zahedi commanded the IRGC’s Quds Force in Lebanon and was sanctioned by the United States and Britain. The US Treasury sanctions designation says he acted as a “liaison” to Hezbollah and Syrian intelligence services and was reportedly charged with guaranteeing weapons shipments to Hezbollah. Israel has stepped up a campaign against Iranian proxies in Syria and Lebanon in recent weeks in response to near daily Hezbollah rocket attacks over its northern border.”  This explains the following story, from which the quote is taken.  “Senior IRGC commander killed in suspected Israeli strike in Damascus,” Telegraph, 4-1-24.

Israel is winning the war in the North against Iran.  It pin-pointed the IRGC leader in Damascus.  But Iran continues holding “hostage” (away from their homes) those Israelis who live in northern Israel.  “Israel reports aerial attack on Eilat; Iraqi militia claims launch,” Reuters, 4-1-24.

Fascinating.  The U.S. warned Iran about the upcoming ISIS attack, Iran ignored the U.S., Iran interrogated ISIS arrestees, Iran warned Russia, Russia even ignored Iran (as well as the U.S.).  “Days before the attack in Russia, Tehran shared information with Moscow about a possible big terrorist attack inside Russia that was acquired during interrogations of those arrested in connection with deadly bombings in Iran,” one of the sources told Reuters.  Iran arrested 35 people in January, including a commander of Islamic State’s Afghanistan-based branch ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K), who it said were linked to twin bombings on Jan. 3 in the city of Kerman that killed nearly 100 people.”  See “Exclusive: Iran alerted Russia to security threat before Moscow attack,” Reuters, 4-1-24.
