“Iran plotted to assassinate Israel’s ambassador to Mexico, U.S. officials say,” Axios, 11-7-25. “Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) planned to assassinate Israel’s ambassador to Mexico, Einat Kranz-Neiger, but the plot was foiled last summer by Mexican security services, according to U.S. and Israeli officials. Why it matters: U.S. officials claim this is further evidence that Iran has an extensive overseas network plotting against American and Israeli targets, including in Latin America. Behind the scenes: The plan was hatched by the same Quds Force unit of the IRGC — the shadowy Unit 11000 — that in recent months allegedly tried to conduct attacks against Jewish and Israeli targets in Australia and Europe, according to sources familiar with the matter. It was initiated at the end of 2024 and led by a Unit 11000 operative who spent several years handling and recruiting Iranian agents across Latin America out of the Iranian Embassy in Venezuela, a source with knowledge said. By the time the plan was in motion, the operative had returned to Quds Force headquarters in Tehran. A U.S. official said the assassination plot was active through the first half of 2025 before being thwarted over the summer.”
“US extends national emergency declaration on Iran for 46th time,” Iran International, 11-7-25. One of the few things Donald Trump and Jimmy Carter have in common as president. “In addition to the 1979 declaration, a separate national emergency was declared on March 15, 1995, addressing Iran’s actions related to terrorism and weapons proliferation. This emergency has also been renewed annually, with the 30th extension made by the Trump administration on March 7, 2025.” … “Last month, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei described negotiations with the United States as “useless and harmful” and declared any talks with Washington forbidden. In a speech this week he praised the 1979 hostage taking as a formative moment in the Islamic Revolution and its mission to eject the United States military from the region and defeat its ally Israel.”

Spoiler alert—the Grand Ayatollah will maintain this same position as long as he is power. “He warned that any future U.S. request for cooperation would be examined only after Washington agreed to certain conditions. “Only if the United States completely cuts its backing for the Zionist regime, removes its military bases from the region, and ceases interfering in its affairs,” Khamenei said.”
Note that their options are limited IF they choose to a revolutionary state. If they instead act as other countries, the world of trade, relations, peace, economy, HDI measurements, etc. open up. See “The 12-Day War: Iran’s Leaders Face Narrowing Choices,” Middle East Institute, 11-3-25.
