Spending a semester abroad was truly a dream come true! It was a big reason ACU stood out to me when I was choosing a university, and I’m so grateful I could turn that dream into reality! This incredible experience offered countless opportunities for growth, fostered deep relationships, and created unforgettable memories that have shaped me in ways I never anticipated! From strolling through the lively markets of Spain to marveling at the breathtaking northern lights in Finland, every moment broadened my perspective on the world and deepened my connection with its Creator!
Over the course of the semester, I was lucky enough to explore not just Oxford and the UK, but also Spain, Italy, France, Croatia, Finland, and Ireland—each country with its own vibrant culture and unique stories to tell! One of the most unforgettable moments came in Finland, where I watched the northern lights! As we lay there in the snow, watching the lights dance across the sky, I felt a sense of awe that’s hard to put into words. The vivid colors shifting and swirling above were breathtaking, but more than that, the moment invited me to reflect on the beauty, complexity, and intricacy of creation. Another favorite memory was exploring the bustling markets in Spain! These weren’t just places to shop; they were lively hubs of culture and connection. Talking with local vendors, trying regional food, and observing the rhythms of daily life gave me a deeper appreciation for Spanish culture. It’s amazing how much you can learn about a place and its people just by being present!
My semester abroad was more than just a series of incredible destinations—it was a season of immense personal growth and transformation. One of the most unexpected areas of growth came from managing the logistics of our travels. I quickly learned the ins and outs of planning—hunting for the best deals, managing tight schedules, and calmly troubleshooting when things went wrong. It pushed me to communicate clearly, think on my feet, and stay adaptable under pressure. These moments, though sometimes stressful, helped me build confidence and develop skills in problem-solving and decision-making that I know will serve me in every area of my life moving forward. Time management became another area of growth for me as I learned to balance academics, travel, and building a home in Oxford. It taught me how to stay focused and productive even in the busiest seasons, something I’ll definitely carry with me in the future!
I experienced spiritual growth during my time abroad as well! Plugging into a local church in Oxford deepened my understanding of God’s omnipresence and allowed me to see His work in ways I hadn’t before. Witnessing faith expressed across different cultures broadened my perspective and enriched my relationship with Him. I came away with a greater appreciation for the universality of His love and how it connects us all, no matter where we are in the world!
Ultimately, this semester I stepped into growth, discovery, and faith in ways that have reshaped who I am and how I view the world. I’m so grateful for this experience, and I would do it over again a million times if I could!
