Be Not Afraid – Oxford Fall 2022

Be Not Afraid – Oxford Fall 2022

Studying abroad has been an amazing experience. To all the students out there: I know you’ve heard a million and one people say this, but it’s really worth it! When I was getting ready to study abroad, I was frustrated with all the preparation I had to do. I just wanted to go! Now as I come to the end of the experience, I know it was all worth it. I’m ready to come home, but I wouldn’t have traded this semester for anything.

Miles of Memories – Oxford Fall 2022

Miles of Memories – Oxford Fall 2022

Traveling. It is something that all of us do on a daily basis whether we realize it or not. From walking to class on the ACU campus to driving for hours to visit family members, we all travel every day. Despite this fact, I never would have thought that I would travel over 4,000 miles and study abroad in Oxford England. Studying abroad has not only helped me learn a lot about myself but also about the world as a whole.

YOLO Moments – Oxford Fall 2022

Sometimes it can seem like I know a lot of things. A lot of facts, a lot of information, a lot of intelligent things. However, this is only on paper. The truth is that even though I know a lot of things I don’t know anything about traveling or really much about life outside of the bubble I grew up in, so of course, I should study abroad right? The answer, although a tad counterintuitive, is a big, fat, scary YES

A Slower Life – Oxford Summer 2022

A Slower Life – Oxford Summer 2022

Throughout the month of June, I had the immense pleasure of studying abroad in England with the College of Business Administration. During our short month across the pond, we studied Operations Management (MGMT 331) and International Business (BUSA 419). Our courses, which were led by Dr. Kyle Tippens and Dr. Monty Lynn, focused heavily on the role of business in British history and culture.

To Germany and Beyond – Summer 2022

To Germany and Beyond – Summer 2022

I went on the Global Healthcare study abroad trip to Leipzig, Germany in summer 2022. As a biochemistry student, I knew a summer trip would be pretty much my only opportunity to go abroad, so my goal was to experience as much as possible in the seven weeks I had there. After all, who knows who I would be or what I would be doing the next time I got to go to Europe?

The Summer I Studied Abroad – Oxford Summer 2022

The Summer I Studied Abroad – Oxford Summer 2022

This summer I studied abroad in Oxford, England with the College of Business Administration. I was there from May 31st to June 30th. While I was there, I was able to visit five different countries: England, Scotland, Germany, France, and Wales. In England, I was able to visit a palace, some museums, some churches, and a couple companies.

Unplugging and Connecting – Oxford Summer 2022

Unplugging and Connecting – Oxford Summer 2022

Before studying abroad in Oxford, I was the type of person who normally wouldn’t take risks (or at least, go with whatever my friends back home were doing). I was the type of person who would always be on their phone scrolling through social media or on my laptop doing some assignment that needed to be done. But, after a month studying abroad in Oxford, I learned that there is more to life than just a screen.

GHC in Leipzig 2022

From May 18th to July 6th of this year, I participated in a study abroad trip with other pre-health students in Leipzig, Germany. While we were there, we had the opportunity to participate in both short visits to nearby locations within this country, and more extended trips to two destinations of our choice. For our first trip, a group of 7 of us went to Oslo, Norway primarily to seek out the beautiful hiking trails this country is known for. On the second, I went with nearly all of the students present to Venice, Italy, where some people split off to go to Rome, Lake Como, and other surrounding areas. These trips were life changing to be sure, but I think the part of this summer that I will remember most is the time spent at home in the Leipzig villa, at the park down the street, or at the city center.

Global Healthcare in Leipzig 2022

I traveled to Leipzig Germany with the Global Health Care Study Abroad program for 7 weeks this summer. While there we studied global healthcare, shadowed in the local hospital, and took a course on Christianity in culture. Along with group trips to Berlin, Weimar, Wittenberg, and other places around Leipzig, we traveled to Oslo Norway, Venice Italy, and Prague. Each place that we visited had a unique culture and background which was exciting to explore and learn more about.

I am so glad I studied abroad in China because it changed my view of Asian cultures and has even made me consider going back. I definitely recommend stretching yourself and going to a place you never imagined yourself being in because you’ll learn a lot about yourself and about the world.

A huge “THANK YOU!” to the Honor’s College for giving me a Travel Grant and lessening the financial burden of Study Abroad! This semester would not have been possible without you!

You cannot remain unchanged after a journey such as this. God is constantly shaping and refining us to be more Christ-like ambassadors for His kingdom. I am not the same person who left Dallas, and with God’s grace, I have a new appreciation and understanding for engaging His global mission.
