Judging is done for the 2013 Images of Aging Photo Contest.  We are proud of all the students who entered this year and send a special thank you to all those family and friends who participated.  We have heard some wonderful stories of what this experience means to your students.

Images of Aging Awards Luncheon was held March 25th.  Photos displayed represented all participants.  Prizes were awarded to First Place and Honorable Mention in each category.

Intended to be a campus-wide event, 15 different departments were represented this year.

Images of Aging Photo Contest 2012-2013

Pruett Gerontology Center is pleased to announce the third year for ‘Images of Aging’ Photo Contest.

ACU students across campus are encouraged to take and submit photographs that include at least one person who is 60 years of age or older.  Join this elite group of photographers found in all disciplines who appreciate the older adults in their lives and enjoy the art and skills of digital photography.

Contest starts November 12, 2012 and ends February 8, 2013

Students currently enrolled at ACU for the 2012-2013 scholastic year are eligible.

There are three categories:

  • Black and white  –  photos can be submitted as taken or artistically enhanced
  • Color  –  photos can be submitted as taken or artistically enhanced
  • Mobile  –  photos taken with a mobile device such as iPhone

First Place and Second Place prizes awarded for each category.

Honorable Mentions awarded at judges sole discretion.

A special awards luncheon will be held to celebrate all participants, prizes will be given.

This is a skills-based contest.  Chance plays no part in the determination of winners.

Technical help is available at The Learning Studio located on the third floor of the Brown Library.  If you do not own a camera, please contact The Learning Studio and ask about their ‘check-out camera’ program.  Everyone who wants to participate can.

Entrants may submit photos to any category, but not more than three for each category.

Photographs should be taken with the highest possible resolution.

 

How to Enter:

1. Read and agree to the Photo Contest Rules.

2. Download the model release form. Each person in your photographs must sign one.  You may make as many copies as you need.

3. Take your photos!

  • Must include at least one person 60+ years old
  • All model(s) must sign release form
  • Use highest resolution possible
  • Give your photograph a title

4. Submit your photo by email.

  • Use your own ACU email address  –  this tells us who you are
  • Submit one photo per email
  • Put Category of photo and Title in subject line of your email. (Mobile, Crazy Times)
  • Name all the models in your photograph in the body of the email
  • If you wish, please include two or three sentences that tell the story of the picture
  • Attach your photo and send to imagesofaging@acu.edu

5. Submit your signed Model Release forms within 5 days to:

Pruett Gerontology Center  –  Hardin Administration Bldg  Room 118  or   ACU Box 27793

Only one release form per model is needed.

Last day to enter: February 8, 2013

2011-2012 Winners Announced

Congratulations to all the students who entered this year’s Images of Aging Photo Contest.  We are so impressed with the quality of the photos, the thoughtfulness and creativity expressed in each one.  Judging was not an easy task.

The contest announced First Place awards for each of three categories, black and white, color, and mobile.  To recognize the quality of the entries and the appreciation we have for the student’s efforts, three Honorable Mention awards will also be given for each category. You each have a special talent we hope you will continue to use and develop and share with others.

Images of Aging Photo Contest was open to all students across the ACU campus.   Each had the opportunity to combine their creativity, their photographic skill and their love for someone older in their lives.  The results reflect a wide diversity of stories.  This year, twelve different majors are represented.

Please join us in congratulating these students for their fine efforts.   Be sure to take notice around campus to see a selection of Images of Aging photos displayed in print.  They will also be at various locations in Abilene throughout the summer.

“Images of Aging”

Photo Contest 2011

We are excited to present the first “Images of Aging” Photo Contest to the students of Abilene Christian University.   ACU students are encouraged to connect with older adults through the art of photography.   

While there are several categories that each present different creative and technical possibilities, all photographs must include at least one person 60 years old or older.

Contest starts November 11, 2010 and ends January 31, 2011.

All students enrolled at Abilene Christian University for the 2010-2011 scholastic year are eligible.  Faculty, staff and the general public are not.

There are five categories:

  • Art Forms – black and white –  photos that can be enhanced artistically
  • Art Forms – color –  photos that can be enhanced artistically
  • Documentaryblack and white –  photos with minimal enhancements
  • Documentarycolor –  photos with minimal enhancements
  • Mobile   – photos taken with a mobile device such as iPhone

First Place prize for each category is a gift certificate to Best Buy for $150.00.

Honorable Mentions will be awarded gift certificate for $50.00 each.
