Outside of ACU, I am engaged in various service activities within my discipline, supporting the larger community of computer science research and professional work. Several examples of this type of service are specified below.
I have served as an expert reviewer for several journals in my discipline. Evaluating articles has helped me build a deeper perspective on publication and better understand the hard but necessary choices that editors and committees must make in including some and excluding other papers.

I served for several years (2016, 2017, 2018) as a reviewer for the ACM Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education Technical Symposium, a large, international conference in CS education. I also served as a program committee member and reviewer for the International Conference on Security and Management for several years (2013, 2014, 2015).
From December 2014 to October 2015, I served on the doctoral committee for Ray Pettit (a former associate professor here at ACU who completed his Ph.D. at Texas Tech and graduated December 2015).
From November 2010 to December 2014, I volunteered as a language editor for the Central European Journal of Computer Science. The journal is primarily intended for publishing computer science research papers by Central and Eastern European authors. The journal is published in English, so, as many of the authors are not native English speakers, I assisted by editing the language in accepted papers for readability. I believe that this was a valuable service helping researchers from underrepresented areas make their ideas known.
In November 2012, I performed an on-site review of the computer science program at Texas Wesleyan University and provided a detailed report of my observations and suggestions for improvement. I appreciate the time that our own visiting committee spends in evaluating my department and I was glad for the opportunity to provide the same service for another school.
