Dr. Carisse Berryhill, Special Collections Librarian, traveled last summer with help from an ACU Cullen Grant to visit the University of Glasgow archives. Berryhill photographed letters, rare books, and student notes from courses taught by professors under whom Alexander Campbell studied.
She says, “He made an accidental trip from home to college. He and his mother and younger siblings sailed from Northern Ireland bound for Philadelphia to rejoin their father, Thomas. But a shipwreck meant they had to spend a year in Glasgow before finally being reunited.” Selected photos of Ireland, the shipwreck site, and Scotland are now available in the Stone-Campbell Teaching Archive.
