Community and Church

My wife and I are faithful members of the Hillcrest Church of Christ.  In addition to regular attendance, I have served as an occasional teacher for our and other Sunday morning Bible classes, multiple Wednesday night classes, and our Sunday night small group.  We also served as a host family for the Hillcrest University Ministry (2016-2019). Before they were discontinued, I wrote several Feeding the Flock articles for our Sunday morning bulletin.  I received the email shown in Figure 3.2 from John Barton (current elder at Hillcrest, father/father-in-law of two ACU faculty members, and former professor of computer science at ACU) on the basis of one of these articles.

In Fall 2014 I joined the Hillcrest Singers, an a Capella singing group that rehearses and then gives concerts at local elderly care facilities.  In 2015, I was appointed a deacon and began serving on the Hillcrest Missions committee, a thoroughly rewarding committee.  In the greater community I have served as head or assistant coach for my son Asher’s AYSO soccer team for the first 7 seasons that he played.  I have also served as a data and analytical consultant for both Docket Navigator and the City of Abilene.
