Open Access Week at ACU – 2018

Last week was International Open Access Week, taking place over October 22-26 this year. This is a week to celebrate all things open, and to draw awareness to open access and its benefits.

Here at the ACU Library, we are taking steps to raise awareness of open access on campus. Open Access Week is a great way to achieve this! This year, we celebrated with “open lock” cookies, the symbol for open access. The cookie cutter was made in the Maker Lab on their 3D printer – the design was available for free here – just one of the many benefits of open access!

I was also able to present a session in the Adams Center on Open Access and Digital Commons for faculty on campus. If you missed it, feel free to check out this research guide to help you with your open access and institutional repository needs!

Last year during Open Access Week, we had a contest for faculty and students where they could scan a QR code and be entered into a drawing for a free ACU blanket if they correctly answered four questions about open access. Our winner was JC Campbell, a physics major here on campus.
