David Worley Dissertation Now in Open Access

The Scholars Lab is proud to announce the publication of God’s Faithfulness to Promise: The Hortatory Use of Commissive Language in Hebrews, David Ripley’s dissertation, reformatted and with added forward by James Thompson and bibliographic addendum by Lee Maxey.

A print version of this book is also available to purchase. In the spirit of open access, the Scholars Lab has sought to make the physical book available in as high quality but as low a price as possible.

The recent publication of ACU alum David Worley’s Yale Ph.D. dissertation (1981) is appropriate in light of the significance of the work—a substantial contribution to the study of Hebrews—as well as the person David was. The consummate steward of God’s gracious gifts, David was “salt and light” in every arena of a life—in many different contexts. He honored God as a family man and in business; as a teacher and as an administrator; as churchman and as a scholar. The overriding theme of God’s faithfulness to promise in Hebrews is highlighted both in David’s dissertation and, more important, in his life. Accordingly, those who love Hebrews, as well as friends and family who love David, have reason to celebrate this publication of God’s Faithfulness to Promise.
