Sigma Delta PI- Omega Gamma

Diez Años en el campus de Abilene Christian University

In the Fall of 2020, Omega Gamma should’ve celebrated 10 years on the campus of ACU. However, we found ourselves in the midst of a pandemic. We haven’t been able to celebrate yet, but we did honor our ten years of great work by our Spanish Honor students with a special Hispaniola volume. A balance of these years since we inaugurated a Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi on campus, would show six National Awards, a special Octavio Paz Award and a Mentor of the Year Award for the Chapter’s adviser. The publication of six volumes in the last six years of ACU’s Spanish Journal: Hispaniola, sponsored by Omega Gamma, the Department of Language and Literature and ACU’s Student Government Association. Even in this pandemic year, we welcomed ten new members [in Initiation ceremonies conducted outside for both Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters].

Since Omega Gamma was inaugurated in the campus of Abilene Christian University, Spanish Honor students have dedicated themselves to uphold the values de Sigma Delta Pi. Promoting Spanish language and cultures has been at the center of what we do, but service has also been a key element of our success. We have collaborated with International Rescue Committee, the Grace Museum, we have translated official documents for Texas PTA, Christian Homes of Abilene, ACU’s Speech Clinic, ACU’s Medical Clinic and just this semester we completed translation work for the Marriage and Family Institute. We have also honored the ACU Police, the ACU work-crew and the Abilene Fire Fighters as part of our campaign “Seamos amables unos con otros”…Let’s be kind to one another!”
