Before Booking an Appointment
Speaking projects can take longer than you expect, so it’s a good idea to start preparing in advance. If you are looking for help organizing and researching your presentation, make an appointment a week or two before your speaking day. If you are planning to visit the Speaking Center to practice delivery or work on your visual aids, schedule your appointment 5-7 days before your speaking day. Last minute appointments don’t leave you time to make changes suggested by consultants and practice your revised speech before your presentation.
The Speaking Center gets very busy during the semester, so we recommend that you book your appointment at least a week in advance.
What to Expect During Your Appointment
When you come to your appointment, please bring your assignment, the work you’ve already completed, and any questions you have. We look forward to giving you feedback and helping you become a more effective communicator. However, we will not do your work for you. For example, we cannot give you a speech topic, do your research, or write your speech. However, we CAN get you headed in the right direction for you to create a successful oral presentation!
