- About My Role: Grant Abston – Assistant director of Athletics for Recruiting
Problem: Disconnect between students looking at ACU for athletic reasons and admissions
Goal: better connect the enrollment office and better connect students to ACU
Role: Work in athletics, umbrellaed under the enrollment office
Make sure the ACU recruiting process is positive for potential student athletes; social media
Connecting athletics with potential walk on status, or steer students towards other options
1200 apps that originated from athletic interests
Football brings in the most students, signed 42 walk ons and 21 scholarships
180 new athletes this past year
Best way Senate can serve you: if you know student athletes in high school, get those names to Grant
Club Sports – another avenue to recruit students, NCAA recruitment tool
Student run, requires student leadership
Teams play other NCAA teams, but not actually affiliated with NCAA
Last year was the first year club sports was affiliated with athletics
Great tool for pointing students to that are not able to play varsity sports
Beach volleyball will compete this spring
Dave: How does ACU make potential athletes aware of our culture?
Grant: I usually educate them, encourage recruit to get on campus, and identify academic status/ability. Most of the staff can identify pretty quickly what recruits would be a good fit.
Jill: Has noticed more engagement with the career center from athletes. Seeing a trend in picking hard majors and engaging earlier, more engagement from athletics office.
Grant: Division I move has resulted in a higher academic standard, athletes are eligible for academic scholarships if they meet one of three NCAA guidelines. Stacked scholarships saves athletics money.

Survey – What do you like about ACU? What can ACU do to make this a better place for you? – Foster gratitude and ideas for leadership
Staff mentors for new employees
Looking for ways to partner with other organizations on campus, help to get word out
ACU Special days for Administrative Coordinators, Directors, etc.
Craig: Next issue of ACU Today – Campus Spotlights, feature staff
More staff than faculty – we need to highlight them
Shannon: Committee would be interested in feedback and ideas, how can we retain good people
Jill: FDLIC – great job appreciating staff, think out of the box, great retention, great place to work., innovative
Steve: When will the John C. Stevens park be dedicated?
Craig: JCS – veteran’s day chapel, Dr. Stevens will be discussed, story featured, following chapel, sign will be unveiled, donors will speak, Dr. McCaleb will be a part of that
Steve: Encourage Staff Senate to be there
Gumm: work John C. Stevens award included in the script
Craig: we will work that into the script

Google doc with committee guidelines – does it exist? By-law committee will create a google drive doc with the by-laws, guideline documents, there would be a template for the first meeting.
Curtis: What is the process of submitting discussion topics regarding the by-laws before the by-laws?
Eric: Revisions would be submitted, it would come back before the senate.
Scott: do the term limits apply for alternate Senators?
Aubree: Need volunteers for the Homecoming Carnival
