Old Business
Committee Updates
Nominations and Elections (Karen W, Jamie Bearden, Sam Adkins, Lauren Boyles)
Nothing to update

Communication (David Moses, David Scott)
Nothing to update

Benefits and Advocacy (Nuria Hall, Kody Goode, Krista Masci, Titus Vesel, Karen Gilliland)
Karen Gilliland – Sick to Service information
First proposal was put on the staff senate portal

HR is willing to expand to 5 days not limited to the ACU. Committee will continue to talk to HR and fill committee will keep us posted. Still have to have the 240 hours banked to participate – employee has to have 6 weeks for FMLA. Must have approval from supervisor not HR – also, checking to see how HR would like the hours reported if using them at separate times (ex: weekly meals on wheels)

SRWC benefit; It was brought to the attention of a senator that part time employees do not get to use the Rec center for free. They were allowed to use it, but by mistake. The benefit is for full time employees who are on the school insurance. However, part time employees do receive a discount for the Rec Ctr.

Also, mentioned that if an employee has worked for ACU for longer than 10 years, over 55 and retires, then the employee and spouse are able to use the Rec Ctr for free.

Karen G. mentioned that they will be having a Benefit mtg with Holmes Murphy soon

Service (M.C. Jennings, Julie Goodenough, Berlin Fang, Amber Bunton)
Great response for school supplies – took 3 wagons to Dr. Pemberton and put together package to new ACU teachers – they were very appreciative

It was mentioned that we used to bring items for Movies on the Hill to help with supplies. Kody Goode is finding out how we can continue doing that.
We are working on the DRI – helping with sorting the pumpkins off of the truck
There may also be a Women’s Basketball project – more info soon.

Development and Recognition (Sheila Barton, Susan Hardcastle, Tyson Alexander)
Nothing to update

If anyone has names of staff members they would like for us to send cards to in October, please send the name and a brief explanation to Karen Witemeyer prior to the Oct. meeting – email: kmw03d@acu.edu

Blessing cards to be given to Staff Senate members to use with their departments
Please take and encourage those in your areas.

New Business
Collaborate with Faculty and other ACU Stake Holders in reading, “I’m Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness” by Austin Channing Brown. – 7:00 next Monday in Cullen coming to speak
Staff and faculty were given this book

What are some books that we can read? Krista suggested, reading MB suggest that we table the suggestion that we not have a book right now with so much going on.
MB talked with PS and to add some people to the committee that is readying the book as a faculty – make campus wide – all together

Town Hall – brainstorm ideas to provide a stress reliever for staff: How do YOU de-stress?
What we would like to concentrate on well being of staff. Stay well rounded -work life balance.
An event that provides stress relief
1 – Axe throwing
2 – De-stress event – stations, learn new technique
3 – Tennis ball therapy
4 – Massage chairs
5 – Relaxation training/meditation
6 – Puppy station
7 – Coffee hour at the grad school of theology
8 – Seated yoga
9 – Staff yoga – no students
10 – Lindsay Arthur – dietician with Chartwells

MB would like a group of people that would be willing to see what we can do at this and find a date and time and promote – the following people volunteered:
Lauren
Tyson
Krista
Sam – Chair

It was suggested that we provide our staff a time to train again with Betty Hardwick – cost would be lunch/can we partner with HR to have a couple of times a year – each class only holds 20 per class
Need to come up with the dates that will work for campus
David Moses will call Betty Hardwick to see when they are available

Announcements: Staff meal plan – take advantage of the price break

ADJOURN TIME: 9:30am
