Exisistential and Psychoanalytical

I really enjoyed the clip that was shown today in class because I have been struggling with finding my type of therapy that I wanted to go with. To see this clip and how Sean used different aspects of a couple of schools of psychology in his therapy sessions. I think that this is something that I am going to want to do when I am a counselor. What do some other people think about this? Are you set on one type of therapy or do you feel like you could take from several? or even all?

I feel like I am going to take from several of them in order to form my own style and I can cover the different needs of my future clients and that way I can help them cope or overcome what their issue is.

Maybe the only way to move forward is to take what we have learned from many to create new. To remain stagnant and comfortable is something that these theorists would not stand for and so good for you for not settling on the ideas of one viewpoint.

I agree with yall. I feel like it is important to learn and be educated in all types of therapies, not just one. However, if I had to pick the one that I would lean toward as a counselor, it would be Rogerian therapy.

I am on becoming a counselor, but I would find it difficult to strictly use only one school of psychology. I think that all of the schools have something significant to offer. Personally, I would focus primarily in cognitive behavioral therapy with hints of several of the other schools.

As a hopeful counselor, I would love to be able to understand all of the theories we have discussed in class and be able to evaluate easily which ones I agree with. However, it is more difficult than that because so many theorists are persuasive and have shown different ways to do different things. I agree with Candice, we must take what we have learned and create new, constantly reforming it after trial and error.

Not only do I think I will use several types of counseling in my therapy, but I also think it is important. Each person is unique and every person will respond differently to the techniques. I don’t think there is any correct way of counseling people. It is all the the theories we have studied that have made an impact on psychology and all of them have valid points.

I would definitely have to use bits and pieces from all of the theories depending on what was needed at the time in the situation. I don’t think that any of the theories can adequately solve every single problem alone.

I’m not opposed to the idea of borrowing from different schools where appropriate, but I’m still far too uneducated in the field to make that kind of decision. I probably won’t feel comfortable doing that until well after I’ve graduated.
