ABILENE CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY
Integrated Spiritual Formation Plan (ISFP)
A Campus-Wide Initiative
Centered on Spiritual Formation
What is the ISFP?
The ISFP is, by design, comprehensive and broad, spanning all four years of a student’s time on campus and includes curricular, extracurricular, and co-curricular aspects of campus life.
One key aim of the ISFP is to inspire and orient new initiatives. That aim is currently being accomplished in the integration of the ISFP in the development of the Compass program.
ISFP Themes
The four theological themes of the ISFP are community, hospitality, calling, and wisdom.
These guide the five areas of growth in the Compass program, which encourages students to grow intellectually, spiritually, culturally, professionally, and personally.

Year 1: Pursue Community
Connecting students to cross-shaped relationships with peers and adults on campus and in
Abilene through compelling opportunities to invest in a variety of Christian organizations, both
discovering and experiencing the distinctive nature of Christian community.

Year 2: Pursue Hospitality
Engaging students in encounters with diverse peoples, ideas and cultures through both local
and global opportunities to extend and receive hospitality and to serve others in Christ’s name.

Year 3: Pursue Calling
Advancing students’ understanding of vocation in a manner that integrates each student’s
particular identity, career goals and vision for life with the broad calling for Christians to participate in the ongoing mission of God revealed in the pattern of Christ’s life and death.

Year 4: Pursue Wisdom
Launching students into cruciform and purposeful living beyond the university by equipping
them with tools for and experiences seeking Christian wisdom as they prepare to transition
into a new season of life and career.
The ISFP In Action
The Cukrowskis
Dr. Ken and Karen Cukrowski served as the 2024-2025 Faculty-In-Residence for Wessel Hall and the living-learning-community of the Honors College.
During their time in this position, the Cukrowskis were able to model the ISFP themes of hospitality, calling, and wisdom, helping to shape their community in Wessel Hall. Their mentorship helped shape the students’ lives and collegiate adjustment, fully embodying the themes of the ISFP.
Julie Goodenough
Julie Goodenough has been the Head Coach for the ACU Women’s Basketball Team since 2012.
As the Head Coach, Goodenough leads with Christ-centered teaching and coaching, and focuses on building a hospitable community that nurtures her players. Her years of experience give her fine-tuned wisdom, which she uses to stay involved in shaping her players’ holistic formations to find their calling.
