This year’s national Delta Tau Alpha Convention was hosted by Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tenn. on March 4-6. Eleven universities were represented this year, totaling about 80 students. ACU was well represented, walking away with many honors and good memories.

Colton McInturff, sophomore animal science major from Franklin, Tenn., was elected vice president for the southern region. All the general meetings were chaired by outgoing National DTA President Kyle Ferrell, senior agribusiness major from Weatherford, Texas. The students also competed in the Ag Olympics and earned 3rd place in the Ag Quiz Bowl.

“Our students were superior,” said Dr. Mhlanga, professor of animal science, who accompanied the students to the convention.  “The convention prepares students for leadership positions in the agricultural industry. “

The convention featured many educational breakout sessions and tours. One of this year’s favorites was a tour of the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration Grounds and an alpaca show.

“Two veterinarians came over and spoke to us about alpacas,” said Jaimie Howard, junior animal science major from Lantana, Texas. “It was very interesting to hear about.”

The students also toured the Stone’s River National Battlefield and experienced Nashville and the Cumberland River on the General Jackson Showboat.

“The river cruise included a dinner and live country music performance,” Dr. Mhlanga said. “It was awesome. The students really enjoyed it.”

DTA continues to be a rewarding and enlightening experience for A&E students as they get better acquainted with each other and the vast world of agriculture.

“Being a member of DTA has, thus far, presented me with new challenges, and allowed me to fellowship with other agriculture enthusiasts around the nation,” said McInturff.
