Mandy Scudder, administrative assistant to the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, attended the Region 7 National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) conference in Oklahoma City March 6-8.

NACADA promotes and supports quality academic advising in institutions of higher education to enhance the educational development of students.  The conference provides a forum for discussion, debate and the exchange of ideas pertaining to academic advising through numerous activities and publications.

“This conference provides a place to build comradery among your fellow academic advisors as well as develop new ideas to make our advising system better,” Scudder said.

Scudder continued, “The value of this conference is found in the ideas of how to improve our system, but is also found in helping us recognize what we are doing that’s right.”

“I walked away feeling that when it comes to advising, even though there is room for improvement, ACU is in the top tier of schools doing things right,” Scudder said.

While ACU is small compared to many other universities out there, there is a lot of buzz about what our university is doing.

“It was fascinating how many people knew about our mobile learning initiative,” Scudder said.  “It was a hot topic of discussion among groups of advisors that I was with.”
