Guatemala Medical Mission Trip

With help from the Honors College and many other people, I was able to participate in a surgical medical mission trip this spring break at Clinica Ezell in Guatemala. There I volunteered alongside the Guatemalan and American medical staff. During this time, I was scrubbing in to assist in cataract surgeries, preparing patients for surgery, translating, etc. I also got the opportunity to assist in the dental clinics. Serving with the talented doctors, nurses, and assistants was truly inspiring, and I am truly grateful for their wisdom and patience throughout the week. It was an amazing and humbling experience being able to go and serve through Health Talents International. Participating in a different healthcare system than the United States was valuable and eye-opening. On our last day, we also got to visit beautiful Antigua to see volcanoes and the local marketplace. It was also nice talking to local Guatemalans about the area and the history of the town. Overall, I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to be poured into by outstanding people all over the world through Health Talents International.
