The Summer of Our Content! – Oxford Summer 2022

ACU Study Abroad in England was one of the most fun, enriching, and challenging experiences of my undergraduate degree and time at ACU! My group of eight other girls, both English and other majors, had me laughing the entire time, and I had the best experience with them! They really made the trip exceptional, and I have Study Abroad to thank for many new friendships. Getting to know each of my classmates and experiencing life abroad with them was definitely the highlight of my trip and made every long bus ride, every second of sore feet, and every weird hour of jetlag so worth it!!

My experience with the Study Abroad program at ACU was phenomenal. I attended a trip to Oxford with the English department where I took a course called Shakespeare on stage. This class took us to ten plays including four plays at The Globe in London and one in Stratford at the Royal Shakespeare Company. Studying several different Shakespeare plays in one month was quite the experience. Oxford is full of so much history that is connected to not only Shakespeare, but also several famous authors. While abroad, I also had the opportunity to travel to Winslow palace and Ireland.

Expect the Unexpected – Oxford Summer 2022

For seven weeks of my summer, I spent my time traveling across Europe with sixteen art and design students, some close friends, others complete strangers. Together, we got to know bits and pieces of not one, but three new cultures, all completely different from each other and all completely unfamiliar to us. We got to experience the pub culture of Oxford, the rich music history of Vienna, and the famous nightlife of Florence and Rome as well as many other mini adventures along the way. The beauty of England, Austria, and Italy had so many sweet little lessons to teach me both about the countries themselves and about myself, but some of the most life changing of these were taught to me by my fellow travelers.

Snapshots of a scene. Small pieces of a memory. Snippets of reality drawing you into your imagination. These are the moments captured through the Oxford 2022 Summer Art and Design Program. Hello, my name is Hailey Bangert and I studied abroad as an art student in the summer of 2022.

A Month as a “Nursing” Student – Montevideo Summer 22

Since I decided on ACU, I knew I wanted to study abroad. A couple of my family members and several of my close friends have studied abroad, and so consequently I had heard dozens of stories of the once-in-a-lifetime experiences and perspectives gained only through living and studying in a completely different culture. Thus, I had some expectations, but still, I really had no idea what all I was about to learn in Montevideo, Uruguay, and how it would affect me.

Studying abroad in Oxford, England was absolutely incredible. Being able to go and engage with another culture in an unfamiliar place helped me to grow in unimaginable ways and I am forever thankful for the experience and how it shaped me. The experience itself was something that I did not expect. I think I expected to enjoy the locations and landmarks, but I had no idea how close I would become to strangers.

I am so glad I studied abroad in China because it changed my view of Asian cultures and has even made me consider going back. I definitely recommend stretching yourself and going to a place you never imagined yourself being in because you’ll learn a lot about yourself and about the world.

A huge “THANK YOU!” to the Honor’s College for giving me a Travel Grant and lessening the financial burden of Study Abroad! This semester would not have been possible without you!

You cannot remain unchanged after a journey such as this. God is constantly shaping and refining us to be more Christ-like ambassadors for His kingdom. I am not the same person who left Dallas, and with God’s grace, I have a new appreciation and understanding for engaging His global mission.
