- Designed and developed strategies for the genetic manipulation of the thermophilic, anaerobic, cellulolytic bacterial genus Caldicellulosiruptor in an effort to investigate genes important in the degradation of lignocellulosic biomass to biofuels.
- Developed a technique to significantly improve the plating efficiency of this difficult-to-manipulate genus.
- Directed technicians and students in the research and manipulation of thermophilic anaerobes.
