I genuinely enjoy my department and the wonderful colleagues I get a chance to work with on a daily basis. I consider it an honor to be asked to serve the department in any capacity. The following is a list of duties I have performed at the department’s request.
Service to the Department
- Faculty advisor for Mu Sigma, a math club created with the aim of securing membership in the math honor society, Pi Mu Epsilon. (2007 – 2010)
- Organized an after school tutoring program that earned a write up in the Optimist.
- Created and maintain the Mu Sigma blog.
- Presided over meetings and gatherings of club members.
- Worked with SA and club officers to plan budgets.
- Served as a moderator for the ACU hosted 2009 TORUS (Texas Oklahoma Regional Undergraduate Symposium) conference meeting.
- Served as a department representative and liaison to Dr. Ivars Peterson, a principal speaker at the ACU hosted 2010 Texas Section of the MAA conference. In addition, I helped moderate, facilitate the event and was the department representative at the student breakfast.
- Served as the library liaison for the department. (2009 – present)
- Helped organize journal acquisitions for the department and oversee department requests for general library acquisitions.
- Organized a group tasked with reforming course competencies for MATH 186, MATH 325, and MATH 361.
- Helped draft the Math Department Summer Research Internship Agreement for student researchers during the summer.
- Offered my services as a mentor for students giving presentations as a part of their MATH 397/497 course requirements.
- Led departmental chapel and/or organized student leadership of departmental chapel on occasion.
A part of my duties to the department is representing the department honorably in service opportunities presented as a part of professional obligations. The following is a list of service provided to the profession.
Service to the Profession
- Named to the Executive Program Committee for the 2013 ICTCM conference in Boston, MA. We are tasked with organizing the conference, obtaining speakers, moderating sessions, and providing input on conference strands.
- Served as a referee, reviewing manuscripts for the Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, Journal of Abstract and Applied Analysis, and the Journal of Nonlinear Analysis.
- Served on faculty panels at various conferences discussing the implementation of mobile learning tools in mathematics education.
- Attended the 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 Texas MAA conferences representing the department at student breakfasts, sponsoring students, and attending colleagues presentations (and making a few of my own).
