Director of Special Collections, Mac Ice, contributed a chapter about the pioneering archival work of Claude Spencer, librarian and archivist at the Disciples of Christ Historical Society, to a book titled The Faithful Librarian: Essays on Christianity and the Profession, published by McFarland.
“Spencer assembled a remarkable archive that sourced hundreds of books and research projects about Stone-Campbell history. However, it is tragically ironic that he has been overlooked for so long. The broad theme that all chapters in the book attempt to address is how the Christian faith impacts the work of librarianship,” says Ice.
Mac’s chapter is a case study which narrates Spencer’s formation as a librarian and archivist and then describes the values which grounded his work.
