Last Friday afternoon, a group of 12 A&E students, three faculty and one spouse boarded a bus and left for their annual weekend mission trip to Medina Children’s Home. At approximately 3:20 p.m., on U.S. Highway 83 at the intersection of Country Road 234 between Ballinger and Paint Rock, the bus left the roadway and rolled, striking a ditch and culvert. The force of the accident sheered the top of the bus off, ejecting several passengers.

Sophomore Anabel Reid, an environmental science major from Petersburg, Texas, did not survive the accident. The other passengers were taken to various area hospitals, many of them airlifted.

As of Monday afternoon, seven remain hospitalized and only one in critical condition. Anabel’s memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at Broadway Church of Christ in Lubbock.
