Two Months Away

A blogger with an iPhone can only do so much, which is why, every so often, we ask a professional photographer to capture the state of the Royce and Pam Money Student Recreation and Wellness Center as it speeds toward completion at the end of August. Here are some pictures taken by Abilene photographer Steve Buttman:

The lobby, looking toward the front entrance, with the cardio floor to the left and intramural offices to the right.

The leisure pool, nearly ready for tile as a worker paints near the ceiling on the far side, in this photo taken from near the top of the central staircase.

An open-air patio area on the building’s south side extends east off the second-floor jogging track and will provide students a place to stretch, relax or study.

Crews have begun installing glass in the windows of the two large second-floor exercise classrooms in the facility’s southeast corner. The large windows look south toward Chapel on the Hill and east toward the Hunter Welcome Center.

A view from the southeast corner of the jogging track overlooking the lobby. At the back of the lobby can be seen the brightly lit pool area, as well as the central staircase and the elevator shaft, around which sits the bouldering wall.

The bouldering wall, about 10 feet high, embraces two sides of the elevator shaft next to the staircase at the back of the lobby.

The east side of the facility. Crews have begun clearing away debris as work is set to begin on repairing the ACU Drive parking lot serving the McGlothlin Campus Center, Biblical Studies Building and the SRWC. Some of the lot has been incorporated into the facility itself, while another portion has been used as staging for the construction. Restoring curbs, landscaping and asphalt to the parking lot is one of the last exterior projects remaining.
