A great introduction to biblical storytelling. Boomershine shares a variety of ways to learn stories and models the fruits of the methodology through his insights into the selected stories from the gospels. 

A premier example of the academic work being done in this area. Make sure to check out the accompanying performance videos and the other volumes in the Biblical Performance Criticism series.

While this book does not focus specifically on “biblical” storytelling, it offers a rich study of the various elements of storytelling. Reading this book and engaging the suggested exercised will make you a better storyteller. 

This introduction to performance criticism shares salient details about ancient oral culture and outlines ways to use peformance in a classroom setting.

In this book, Amelia Boomershine shares the biblical storytelling ministry, Circle of the Word, that she developed for people serving time in jail. You can learn more about her life-giving work at the Circle of the Word blog.

The Network of Biblical Storytellers exists to encourage people to learn and tell biblical stories. The website includes resources for learning and telling along with information about their annual conference, the NBSI Festival Gathering, and their certification program, the Academy for Biblical Storytelling. Joining the Network and attending the Festival will help you connect to other storytellers from across the world. 

GoTell Communications is the creation of Tom and Amelia Boomershine, who of the leading voices in the world of biblical storytelling. Among the many resources available on the site, you’ll find an audio performance and commentary for each gospel reading included in the three-year lectionary. Also, be sure to check out Amelia’s work with Circle of the Word, a biblical storytelling process that she has been using in prison ministry for many years. 

Biblical Performance Criticism is the clearing house for the academic methodology that undergirds the practice of biblical storytelling. At this site, you’ll find an extensive bibliography and collection of scholarly articles if you would like to dig deeper into the theoretical grounding for performance criticism.
