2023-24 General Education Menu Applications

by   |  05.12.22  |  Uncategorized

UGEC has approved criteria for faculty to apply to add courses to each of the general education menus, which include Arts and Humanities, Cultural Literacy, Life and Physical Sciences, and Social and Behavioral Sciences.
.
2022-23 Roadmap for Curriculum Revision
UGEC will approve courses to populate the general education menus in early to mid-fall. Faculty, the Registrar’s Office, and the Provost’s Office will work together in late fall to revise all undergraduate degree programs offered by the university to reflect the newly completed general education plan. College councils will review and approve the degree plans in early spring. The Abilene Undergraduate Academic Council (AUAC, formerly known as UUAC) and the CGPS Academic Council will review and approve all revisions to the degree plans throughout the spring.
.
Who Should Apply
Our new gen ed requirements have four menus on which faculty can apply to have courses appear. All menus begin as a blank slate; there are currently no courses approved for any of these menus. Even if you have a course that has appeared on a similar menu, you need to apply to have the course added to the new general education options.
.
Proposal Flow
Proposals for UGEC should receive a vote from department/program faculty and be signed by the Abilene department chair or Dallas program director. College councils and deans do not review general education proposals, so they advance directly to UGEC from the discipline.
.
Deadlines
All proposals for courses that will appear on the menus in the 2023-24 catalog are due to the Registrar’s Office by Sept. 16, which is the end of the third week of the fall semester. Proposals will be reviewed for completion in the order that they arrive, and they will be added to council agendas in the order that they’re cleared for completion. In other words, the earlier that you submit, the earlier you’ll have a council decision.
.
Submission
Compile an approval chart, the appropriate menu application, and a course syllabus into a single document and send it to Karen Witemeyer in the Registrar’s Office at kmw03d@acu.edu.
