ACU Bio-diesel Project

A group students and faculty at ACU’s chemistry department are researching ways to simplify the process of converting vegetable oil into bio-diesel, a cost-effective renewable source of energy that can be made out of recycled products like vegetable oils. Dr. Jim Cooke, Professor of Environmental Science, has been using the bio-diesel in his truck for several months as part of the study.

“We are trying to make bio-diesel safer for the average person to use,” said Dr. Cooke. “It does involve chemistry, but it is not impossible to do.” More »

2012 Block & Bridle

The 92nd National Block & Bridle Convention was hosted by Middle Tennessee State University on Jan. 31- Feb. 3, 2012. For the first time ever, the Convention was held in conjunction with the 2012 Cattle Industry Convention & NCBA Trade Show. Students Merissa Ford, Mandy Wilson and Anna Watson spent the week celebrating this year’s theme “Moovin’ to the Music.”

The Cattle Industry Convention was held in Nashville at the Gaylord Opryland Convention Center. There, the students attended lectures on such topics as the future of the cattle industry and strategies impacting feed efficiency. More »

Remembering Anabel

Last Saturday, Jan. 28, would have been Anabel Reid’s 20th birthday. In her honor, friends and family met outside of the Zona Luce Building to scatter a portion of her ashes. Among the guests were Anabel’s mother and brother, Shelley and Becton Reid.
