Design Thinking Process

We asked Dr. Nil Santana in the Maker Lab to talk with us about the process of Design Thinking. This is an approach to focused problem solving that will shape our design challenge experiences this week.

The Design Thinking process Nil talks about in the film is based on a model designed at Stanford University in their Design Innovation (ME310) program. Here is an updated version of the graphic developed by the ACU Maker Lab.

Discussion Questions:

  1. Do you find collaboration comfortable or challenging? What role would collaborative skills play in your future profession?
  2. How can you develop the skill of creativity through practices like design thinking?
  3. The Design Thinking Process has some similarities to the way we think about the writing process or the research process. How does design thinking’s iterative process (moving back and forth between testing and revising an idea or project) work in your own experience?
