The movements and activities we do on a regular basis can create muscular imbalances that can cause discomfort in our joints and other areas of our body.  These imbalances, that are created through our daily tasks, can increase our risk of acute injuries, and lead to overuse injuries that can develop over time.  Join us to learn how you can reduce your risk of these injuries in a variety of job settings.

With the busy traveling time among us, please keep in mind that ACU has a telemedicine option available.  Wildcat Care telemedicine is available for all ACU faculty and staff that are covered under ACU’s medical insurance. Getting sick is never convenient, and finding time to get to a doctor can be hard. Wildcat Care allows you to access a doctor from your home, office, or anywhere — 24/7/365 — and is a convenient and cost effective way to receive health care for common conditions. Wildcat Care’s licensed providers can diagnose any non-emergent medical conditions with a short phone visit or secure video visit. They can also prescribe medication and send prescriptions to the pharmacy of your choice. Access Wildcat Care by visiting www.Wildcat.Care.

Summer Schedule of Readings & Thought Questions for June 17

by   |  06.17.19  |  Training and Development

This post includes the second set of thought questions related to Austin Channing Brown’s book, I’m Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness.

One can look anywhere from Harvard Business Review to Brené Brown to find those touting the importance of curiosity to spark change. Brené Brown asserts that “in the context of solving problems, failure to be curious results in poor solutions. Curiosity means focusing on the nature of the problem before even considering a solution.”

Austin Channing Brown argues for curiosity as a holy process: “Our only chance at dismantling racial injustice is being more curious about its origins than we are worried about our comfort. It’s not a comfortable conversation for any of us. It is risky and messy. But is this not the work we have been called to anyway? Is this not the work of the Holy Spirit to illuminate truth and inspire transformation? It’s haunting. But it’s also holy” (117-18).

As you think through this week’s questions, I hope you will become curious about your own experiences (or lack of experiences) and how they might lead you to the point where “doing nothing is no longer an option” (58).

Thought Questions for June 17

Chapter 3: The Other Side of Harmony
Chapter 4: Ain’t No Friends Here
Professor Crendalyn McMath was an important person in Austin’s life because she was her first black teacher, but it wasn’t until Austin was in college. When did you have your first black teacher, supervisor, or pastor?

Traveling through the markers of black history greatly impacted Austin, especially her time at a lynching exhibit. How has learning the history of people of color impacted you? Has it changed your worldview? Your politics? Your theology?

Bonus media: Earlier this summer Nathan Gibbs reported for KACU on memorial ceremony for Grover Cleveland Everett, the victim of a 1922 lynching in Abilene. During the ceremony soil was collected that will become part of the permanent collection at The Legacy Museum in Montgomery, Alabama. Nathan and his students continue to work on a documentary about the lynching.

Lynda.com Upgrade to LinkedIn Learning

by   |  06.13.19  |  Announcements, Training and Development

One of your learning and development benefits, Lynda.com, will soon be upgrading to LinkedIn Learning. LinkedIn Learning has the same great content as Lynda.com, and it will provide a more personalized experience.

All active ACU accounts will be upgraded on Wednesday, June 19, at which time you will no longer be able to access Lynda.com. But don’t worry, all of your learning activity and history will be seamlessly transferred to LinkedIn Learning. As the upgrade to your account is completed, you will receive an email to activate your LinkedIn Learning account. Make sure to check your spam folder, if you don’t see the email by the next day.

Here’s more information on upgrading to LinkedIn Learning or these courses from LinkedIn Learning on getting started. For additional questions please contact Innovation Foundry at if@acu.edu.
