Come to Ethnos – ISA’s annual culture show!

The International Students Association under the direction of the Office of International Students & Visiting Scholars invites you to join us for an evening of vibrant performances from all over the world! This year’s show will feature 18 different acts performed by some of our very own international students as well as a number of cultural groups from the Abilene community including Hoa Rahi (Tahitian Dance Group), the Ballet Folklorico del Big Country and the Big Country Mariachi.

Dates: Friday, November 3rd & Saturday, November 4th at 7pm

Venue: Boone Family Theatre

ACU Tickets prices: $10/adult $8/student or child (4+) $30/group of 5

International Student Hour Limit

This is a friendly reminder of what our student handbook says about International student hours:

“In accordance with federal regulations, international students can work up to 20 hours per week during Fall and Spring semesters. International students are eligible to work 25 hours per week when school is not in session or during the annual vacation (for example, during the summer break).”

Failure to uphold this federal law could result in termination of the student’s position and a loss of immigration status. Supervisors- Please communicate with your international students and adjust their schedules accordingly. Remember that this is a total hourly limit between all jobs that the employee holds on Campus.

Informational Benefits Meeting

If you have not already done so, remember to attend an informational benefits meetings in preparation for Open Enrollment for 2024. These meetings will be scheduled during the week of October 23rd and 30th.  Please add this Calendar to view available times and locations for those meetings. There will be significant changes for 2024. All employees enrolled in ACU benefits are encouraged to attend an informational benefits meeting.

 

All benefits-eligible employees will need to complete their benefits open enrollment for 2024 the week of November 6th – 10th. HR staff members will be available that week in the computer lab on the top floor of the Brown Library, Monday-Thursday 8:00-5:00.

December 2023 Honor Award Nominations

You are invited to nominate students for the December 2023 Honor Awards! Use this link to view a list of the eligible graduating seniors in a drop-down menu. Each nomination should include a paragraph or more describing the student’s personal attributes or contributions that correspond to the award. Your input will assist the Student Life committee in making decisions with respect to the final recipients for Honor Man or Honor Woman, Trustees Award, B Sherrod Scholarship and Dean Adams Achievement Award. Nominations are due by Noon on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

Cover2Cover Read-a-Thon

Please join us Oct. 31 starting at 9 a.m. in the Nancy and Ray Hansen Reading Commons as Brown Library partners with the Department of Language and Literature for Cover2Cover – a marathon-style reading of Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. Stop by, listen, and grab some candy! Each reader will take a 15-minute shift until the entire book is finished. Students, staff, and faculty readers are welcome! If you are interested in being a reader, please sign up here!

2022 Group Health Plan Summary

The Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) requires employers to file annual reports with the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Department of Labor on the status of their various employee benefit plans and to provide employees with a summary of those reports, called a Summary Annual Report. Here is the Full Report filed with the Internal Revenue Service for ACU’s group health plan.

Medicare 101 Sessions

ACU is excited to offer Medicare 101 Sessions to our employees again this year! We are hosting two onsite sessions with a Medicare expert, Tamela Southan, who will be able to answer any questions you may have regarding Medicare, how it works, how Medicare and ACU insurance work together, and how they don’t. All employees who attend one of the sessions will also get a complimentary one-on-one session with Tamela to answer any follow-up questions you may have. Please feel free to invite your spouse to this meeting as well.

 Session 1: Thursday, 10/19, 11 a.m.-12 a.m.

 Session 2: Thursday, 10/19, 2 p.m.-3 p.m.

Both sessions will be held in the LYNAY meeting room 211 in the Hunter Welcome Center.

The information shared in these meetings can be made available for those unable to attend.

Homecoming Carnival – Offices Close Early Oct. 13

Offices will close at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, to allow faculty and staff to attend the Homecoming Carnival at 5 p.m. on the lawn of the Hardin Administration Building and Campus Court. Please display appropriate signage at your offices to notify students and visitors in advance. Carnival registration this year is cashless; you can pre-register children online.
