Alan Jacobs will share concepts from his 2017 book, How To Think: A Survival Guide for a World at Odds with faculty and staff during Summit 2018. While his book suggests that we’re not as good at thinking as we assume, he assists readers in identifying how to recover this lost art and rescue our inner lives from the chaos of modern culture. Jacobs is Distinguished Professor of Humanities in the Honors Program and a Resident Fellow of Baylor’s Institute for the Studies of Religion. His book draws on sources as far-flung as Christian theologian C. S. Lewis and basketball legend Wilt Chamberlain. Jacobs maintains that In learning to think together, perhaps we learn to live together.
