Kirk Goodwin Run to Benefit Cindy Roper

Cindy Roper, professor of Communication, will be the beneficiary of this year’s Kirk Goodwin Run. The event will take place on May 4 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hunter Welcome Center. Cindy suffered a debilitating spinal stroke last March that has paralyzed her from the waist down and resulted in tremendous and ongoing medical expenses. She will be retiring this year after teaching thousands of students at ACU over the past 30 years. You can use this link to purchase a t-shirt, make a donation, or sponsor the event. The deadline for sponsorships is April 17.

May 2024 Honor Award Nominations

May 2024 Honor Award Nominations You are invited to nominate students for the May 2024 Honor Awards! View a list of the eligible graduating seniors in a drop-down menu here. Each nomination should include a paragraph or more describing the student’s personal attributes or contributions that correspond to the award. Your input will assist the Student Life committee in making decisions with respect to the final recipients for Honor Man or Honor Woman, Trustees Award, B Sherrod Scholarship and Dean Adams Achievement Award. Nominations are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024.

Red Cross Group Swim Lessons

Severe Weather Awareness Week

March 31st through April 6th is Severe Weather Awareness Week. City of Abilene Emergency Management will participate in the annual National Weather Service (NWS) tornado drill taking place on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 10 am. During this time, Abilene Emergency Management will send a county-wide Tornado Drill notification via their CodeRED mass notification system. ACU will not host a university-wide tornado drill, but we do ask that you please visit the NWS Safety website and NWS Tornado Safety website for weather preparedness resources. If you have any questions please contact Risk Management at risk@acu.edu.

Retirement Reception for Jerry Taylor

Join us in celebrating Jerry Taylor and his 21 years of service not only to our college but to all of ACU and the Abilene community. The College of Biblical Studies and Department of Bible, Missions and Ministry are hosting a retirement reception to honor Jerry on Thursday, April 11, in the east lobby of the Hunter Welcome Center. The reception will begin at 3:30 p.m. with a short program at 4 p.m. We will have note cards available if you’d like to write a special message to Jerry.

ACU Night at the Zoo

Author Events and Dinner Conversation

ACU Press is hosting two authors on campus April 4. Don McLaughlin, preaching minister at North Atlanta Church of Christ, will speak at 2 p.m. about his book Love First: Ending Hate Before It’s Too Late, and Rubel Shelly, teaching minister at Harpeth Hills Church of Christ, will speak at 3 p.m. about his books The Ink is Dry and Male and Female God Created Them. Both events will be in the Packer Forum of the Brown Library. In addition, faculty and staff, and their guests, are invited to a dinner event April 4 at 5:30 p.m. featuring a discussion with Shelly and McLaughlin about sexuality, marriage and relationships.
