Homecoming Parking and Street Closures

As we welcome Wildcats back to campus this week for Homecoming, there are several road closures and changes to parking for ACU faculty and staff. Specifically, watch for the following changes this Friday, Oct. 13: * Campus Court from the corner of East North 16th Street to East North 18th Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 11 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12, until 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13. The Brown Library parking lot will still be accessible. * The north side parking lot of the Hardin Administration Building will be closed on Thursday, Oct. 12, at 11 p.m. through Saturday, Oct. 14, at 3 p.m. Thank you for your consideration as we welcome many guests to campus this weekend.

Retirement Reception: Mikee Delony

You’re invited to a Retirement Reception for Dr. Mikee Delony, Professor of English on October 17th at 3:00 p.m. in the Brown Library Packer Forum. This come and go reception will have a special presentation at 3:30 p.m. for Dr. Delony’s 17 years at ACU.

Orchestra Fall Concert

The Civic Orchestra of Abilene (ACU’s orchestra!) will present their Fall Concert Tuesday, October 24th at 7:30p in Boone Family Theater. The concert will feature Ben Fairfield, the principal trumpet of the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra performing the Haydn Trumpet Concerto. Also on the concert is “The Flight to Neverland” from Hook by John Williams, and Gershwin’s “An American in Paris.” Admission is free.

Faculty/Staff Advisors for International Student Organizations

Diwali Celebration

The Indian Culture Association would like to invite the ACU community to join them in celebrating Diwali, the festival of lights! Save the date for a night of food, dancing and other cultural festivities at the Hunter Welcome Center on 28th October 2023 from 6pm to 8pm. National “Coffee with a Cop” Day

National Coffee with a Cop day is a day dedicated to encourage communication and positive interactions between law enforcement agencies and the public.

The day began as part of National Community Policing Week in 2016 and now continues each year on the first Wednesday in October furthering efforts nationwide to bridge the gap between the community and the law.

“Coffee with a Cop is community policing at its core. The simple act of having a cup of coffee with community members can be the first step in increasing trust and cooperation between the police and the people they serve.” – former COPS Office Director Ronald L. Davis.

Homecoming Carnival – Offices Close Early Oct. 13

Offices will close at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, to allow faculty and staff to attend the Homecoming Carnival at 5 p.m. on the lawn of the Hardin Administration Building and Campus Court. Please display appropriate signage at your offices to notify students and visitors in advance. Carnival registration this year is cashless; you can pre-register children online.

Paycheck – 3rd in the Month

Just a reminder that Friday’s paycheck (09/29) did not have deductions taken out for benefits except for retirement and (if applicable) ACU gifts. Also, vacation and sick do not accrue on the 3rd check because employees have already received their full monthly accrual amount with the previous two checks.

ACU Press & Leafwood Publishers Sale

The ACU Press & Leafwood Publishers will be offering 40–50% off new titles and up to 80% off select backlist books, October 11–13th. Please visit the display that will be set up in the Brown Library across from the Circulation Desk. Sales hours will be 9–4 on Wednesday and Thursday, and from 9–1 on Friday. We will be accepting payments by card (Square) or via check.

Flu Clinic

Don’t miss out on this flu shot clinic on Monday, October 9th from 4:30-6:30 in the MACCC Lobby. This clinic will also have available the 65+ dose!
