On June 1st the Pruett Gerontology Center welcomed a new director. Dr. Suzie Macaluso earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from Purdue University with specialization in the sociology of religion and survey research methodology. Dr. Macaluso is beginning her eighth year at ACU.
Dr. Macaluso began doing gerontology research in 2014 beginning with a project on clergy retirement preparedness with Dr. C. D. Pruett that they presented at the Southwestern Social Sciences Association meeting. Since then, Dr. Macaluso has presented several posters and workshops on gerontology education and how to encourage student engagement in work with older adults. Dr. Macaluso is looking forward to expanding the research of the PGC and continuing the legacy of service to the ACU and Abilene communities as a resource for aging information.
Dr. Pruett will continue to be involved with the center as a consultant working with churches to develop dementia friendly congregations.
