The woman smiling in the picture I submitted is one that upon first glance, may not be more than an older woman smiling. However, when I look at this picture, I see a fighter and a woman not afraid of the aging process. Carmen Gutierrez, my grandmother has been struggling with the aging process as of late and has been undergoing surgery and has normal pressure hydrocephalus. At this moment and time, my grandma does not remember much and has moments of clarity but seems to be getting worse rather than better. However bad her situation gets, my grandma always has a smile on her face, she always wants to speak with her grandchildren and still loves her Sudoku. When I receive reports about her progress, I get a detailed list of all her doctors appointments and how she is doing, but I never fail to receive a message about how she has not lost her humor and how she loves to play her sudoku and scrabble. When I thought about this assignment, I thought about the one person that is successful at aging, and that is my grandma. No matter the ups or downs of getting older, she clings to God and her faith and knows that he would not put her though something she could not handle. This picture of my grandma with a genuine smile shows me what successful aging is.
