I believe that the key point that stuck out in my mind was at the beginning of Mr. Linkletter’s speech. It came when he said, “Being alive means a lot more than getting up in the morning and breathing brushing your teeth and having breakfast”. This is so true and one of the important things that we have learned since being in the class. He goes back to this point when he is going through his 7 key things to add years to your life. He talks about positive thinking, in which he expanded in to remaining curious, trying to learn constantly, and having a sense of humor. We have learned that constantly trying to learn more and testing their mind helps older adults into keeping their brain healthy and alert. I believe that when someone is aging and getting older they need to be challenged everyday into using their brain. Just like your body needs exercise to remain healthy so does your brain. Cognitive functions are very important for older people to retain; if your brain is healthy and you have a positive outlook on life then you are a healthier all around person.
A couple of major points I got from the video of Art Linkletter were the thoughts of what being alive means and the emphasis he puts on a healthy lifestyle in people through all ages.
When he is talking about what being alive means, he says it isn’t about going through your normal daily routines that everyone goes through but instead finding things to enjoy beyond that. Engaging self in things that can help a person to be involved and interested. I like what he had to say here because I think that people in all walks of life can take this advice as we sometimes live life day to day or paycheck to paycheck.
He continues this thought later in the presentation when he talks about aging adults drinking their later years away or just being unhappy, people have to look for different ways to find their happiness.
Art says that he takes great care of himself and says that is part of what has gotten him to his age and happiness. He says that it is never too late to take care of yourself. Simple exercise and healthy life choices can make a big difference on aging successfully.
As someone that enjoys a good run, this is encouraging for me because hearing testimonies like these about being healthy encourages me to continue to be a better me and to take healthy habits with me to the future.
I think the first main idea Art Linkletter really communicated was the idea that it’s never too late to start taking better care of your body and making the most of your life. He discussed this when he talked about not being able to reverse your life, and also is an idea that prevailed through the seven items he proposed to add eleven better years to an individuals life.
Another theme throughout Linkletter’s lecture was the idea of having a positive attitude. I think Linkletter embodies an individual who always looks for a positive, cheerful element of life, evident in the way he loves children and the humor they offer. He also shared anecdotes about his own life, his story of being adopted and living with pretty strict sounding parents, but still finding joy in this. Finally this was how he concluded his advice to live better, and I certainly think this is honestly something easy we should all do. So much of life is how we perceive it, and when we are seeking the good and joy that God bestows throughout creation, we will live better lives.
After watching the video, one of the main points that stood out to me was Mr. Linkletter’s saying to “live between your ears.” Just as we talked about in class, it is imperative that an aging individual fights against the cultural stereotypes that old people are not useful to society, maintaining a cheerful attitude. Mr. Linkletter continued on to say, “by changing the inner aspect of your mind, you can change the outer aspect of your life.”I think that this statement applies to individuals of all ages, not just older adults, because a person’s attitude about life will inherently affect how he or she will respond to both positive and negative situations.
Another important concept that Mr. Linkletter mentioned was that “life is worth living.” I loved how he said that it is never too late to start taking better care of yourself, and although you might not get the time back, you can always make the most of the time that you have left. For aging adults, it is important that they understand that they can make simple lifestyle changes that will help to create a more productive and more enjoyable life. Just as I said earlier, people of all ages can benefit from this mindset, though. When a person of any age pays attention to taking care of himself or herself, the quality of their life will change for the better.
The first point Mr. Linkletter made that stood out to me was his emphasis on continuing to learn and have a purpose. He reiterated the fact that it is very important to not become passive in life, but to continue to exercise your brain, try new things, and give back to the community. He related this idea again when he spoke about the fact that it is never too late to take care of yourself. While he spoke of physical things you can to do to lengthen your life, he also spoke again about the importance of learning and living in community with others.
The second idea I thought was key to Mr. Linkletter’s speech was his idea on positive thinking. He stressed that in order to do the things listed above, you must change your way of thinking. He stated that is one of the things we can most easily control, and if we want to live long, happy lives we must choose to see the good in every day. It is very important for a person who is growing older to continue to see themselves as important, and like they have a purpose. In order for this to happen, he or she must wake up every day choosing to have a positive outlook on the years he or she has left in this life.
The part of the speech that stood out to me is when Mr. Linkletter said, “you can’t turn back the clock, but you can rewind it.” It struck a chord because it means that it’s up to us to make the most out of our lives. There’s so many things that happen to individuals in a lifetime, both good and bad. Sometimes, we let the bad things rule us, and sometimes it can even destroy us. It’s not about turning back the clock and wishing that these things never happened, it’s about rewinding and adjusting our attitudes about the negative things that have happened in our lives. We have to learn to embrace the positive, because even though we all experience bad things, we also experience joy, and love, and hope. We have to hold on to those good things, because life is worth living. Life will be what we want it to be, and becoming a person with a positive attitude will make life much more fun, and will yield a lot more positive experiences. We are the people that dictate our outlook on life, and it’s important to keep it positive.
A point that Art Linkletter spoke about was taking care of yourself. He spoke about it never been too late to take care of yourself. He said,”You can’t turn the clock back but you can rewind it.” Some people hit a point in their life where they feel like there is no point in taking care of themselves because they are getting old already. Mr. Linkletter key point is to tell people to take care of themselves it does not matter how old you are it is never to late to start. He states that you live the way you think which means if you thing negatively your life will most likely be negative. You must stay positive. He then later says that if you have good genes and a good doctor but smoke your really not helping yourself. You must realized that some unhealthy things in your lifestyle need to stop for your life and health to be better.
The ideas that Art Linkletter presented that stuck out to me the most was having a sense of humor and positive thinking. It’s these two things that can make a difference in a person’s life, especially when one experiences a low point in life. A sense of humor eases one through a difficult time and makes life more enjoyable. Art Linkletter’s encouragement to live fully by staying engaged with life was great because it supports his statement that society needs to fight the myth that old people are just taking up space on this earth. He argued against it by saying that older people deserve their space on earth because they have earned it. His 7 lifestyles that add 11 years to life serve as key goals people should aim to achieve. These are mainly no-brainers as to simple tasks that people know will increase their years of life, but the most important thing to remember concerning the healthy life styles is that it is never too late for individuals to take care of themselves.
Art Linkletter’s speech is full of great advice for living a long life. He emphasizes the importance of staying healthy several times. His 7 things to add 11 years to your life include many physical health maintenance tips like, not smoking, drinking, or doing drugs, and having a healthy diet. He also contributes his long life to exercise. Art has been a very active person his whole life, and his continued activity in old age has helped him stay healthy as well as give his life more meaning.
Mr. Linkletter also believes that a person’s mindset and attitude have a huge impact on their life. He says people “live the way you think”. This means that a person who has a good attitude will have a good life. Another aspect of this is positive thinking and having a sense of humor. Positive thinking is the concept of changing your attitude to have a better outlook on life. Continue to be curious and learn new things. Art encourages us to enjoy things that are fun because, “if you can laugh at life, you can live it”.

I really liked Art Linkletter’s speech. I think he had valuable information to pass on to a younger generation. One of the main ideas that I got from his video was the emphasis that he put on staying healthy. He talked about the importance of physical wellness, positive thinking, and having a sense of humor. He stated that he believes he is still healthy in his old age because of the emphasis that he put his own physical wellness.
Another main idea that I got from Linkletter’s speech was that “life is worth living.” I loved the emphasis that Linkletter put on this concept because people struggle with this on a daily basis. They think they are not good enough and that they are not contributing anything to this world, but that mindset comes from each person. If we wake everyday with the mindset that we are enough and that our day is only as good as we make it, then our days will be better and we will feel like our life is worth living.
It is always inspiring when listening to an individual from the elderly population discussing the process of aging. Although throughout Mr. Linkletter’s speech numerous points made were powerful, his analogy made between a clock and an individual struck me. He went on through explaining that you cannot turn back a clock, but you can rewind it. I believe that is extremely applicable throughout all stages of life. It is common for us to dwell on the negative circumstances or situations in our lives instead of “rewinding” through the change of our actions and attitudes. The overall main point of his speech was that life is worth living. Although at times there are situations that we cannot prevent from occurring, through living a life full of optimism, humor, and wellness life will be a joyous life worth living.
Among many inspiring quotes from Mr. Linkletter, my favorite was this: “You have to fight the myths that old people should somehow apologize for taking up space on this Earth”. I was immediately reminded about the interviews this class did about aging views/stereotypes. So many people, especially my age, have negative views about the elderly. Most young people seem unreasonably scared or frustrated by the elderly because they don’t have enough experience with that population. I think that if the elderly begins to believe the negative stereotypes, their positive outlook on life that Mr. Linkletter discussed will be diminished. It is the responsibility of younger generations to extinguish these stereotypes and place value in older adults because there is way more that they can contribute to society than just taking up space.
Another quote that I liked was, “Being a super dad is more important in every way than being a super star”. Mr. Linkletter discussed how influential his family has been, especially his father and daughter. In a society driven by careers, it is refreshing to be reminded that being a good family member matters so much more than being successful in a career. I strongly believe that making family the top of one’s priorities leads to the happiest life.
Firstly, I would like to state that Mr. Link letter is a very enthusiastic guy. Apart from his inspiring speech he made it easy to watch this video and understand what he is trying to explain about life at a older age and how we should see the elderly in our society. Now, he mentioned numerous things we discussed in class thus far. For instance, he spoke of how young people see old people in society as if they don’t belong here and they are taking up space. However, he was right to say that they had earned there time her because they lived there life until this point. I would agree with him because they are who did a lot of the work to make things possible for us to enjoy now. Therefore, I would agree that those who are living to see some of these changes should enjoy it to the fullest. In addition, to that the advice he have that can allow us eleven extra years of life I think should be taken very seriously cause it would serve us a great deal as young people in society. Those seven steps can help us greatly in the future and I think we need more individual like Mr. Link letter to give speeches to both the old and young in society.
Linkletter caught my attention from the beginning, he is a very well spoken man. I was especially interested in the beginning and how his daughter was taken by drugs. My sister was also taken by drugs. She overdosed on heroin at 22, and left her little girl. So I understand his passion for saving.
I loved his idea that it’s never too late to start taking care of yourself. He says by changing the way you think, you can change your condition. Letterlink says we can have the best of everything, but if we’re not living the right lifestyle than having the best doctors, etc,. to take care of you it doesn’t matter. If you drink, and smoke having a good doctor can’t do anything. Then he gives the 7 things to add 11 years to your life. The greatest health problems we have are cigarettes and alcohol. Then comes other drugs, either too much, not enough, or bad ones. Then the way we eat, plus exercise. Most are just taking care of yourself, and being healthy by implementing these things.
Also that life happens while we’re planning it. That we don’t know how life will go, but we can share the knowledge we have with children and young adults who haven’t been through we the elderly have.
I appreciated the humor through out the entire video it kept me engaged the whole time. I enjoyed to hear the perspective of someone who is elderly talk about the progression of getting older. The main idea of this video was staying healthy and maintaining that health no matter what age you are. When he stated that you can rewind time by changing the inner part of your mind will help you with the outside and physical aspect of your being. You can not be young again but you can certainly improve your health. I like how he says that we have a right to our space, because we have gained wisdom through the years. Because once you reach a certain age I feel like one should be given a certain level of respect. Mr. Linkletter talked about 7 lifestyle changes that will add 11 years to your life. I respected the way Mr. Linkletter ended his speech about positive thinking and taking the time to enjoy the things in life. I think that this speech had a lot of wisdom to offer it may have seemed like most of the advice he gave was common sense, but in reality that is something that society lacks greatly in recent years.
I enjoyed listening to Mr. Linkletter very much. He is a very funny man who liked to joke around a lot. One of the things that stood out to me is when he talked about being adopted. He said that because he was adopted that he wanted to be the best Father and grandfather that he could be. It was great when he explained that through all of his accomplishents in life, he was most proud to be a father. Another thing that stood out was when he said that older people are never going to be young again, but to not be upset about it, but to enjoy the rest of your life and live to the fullest. When he went into his 7 facts for living a long healthy life, my favorite was his last point. That was to always have positive thinking and have a sense of humor. It is important to be able to think positive in the good and in the bad.
I genuinely enjoy Mr. Linkletter’s video and how he stressed that life is worth living, so go out and live it. I loved how he talked about being a parent and how extremely important that is to him. It reminds me of my relationship with my dad, and how incredibly blessed I am to have a father who loves our family and me so well. Linkletter also emphasized how important it is to stay healthy throughout our lives. His main points of physical wellness, positive thinking, and having a sense of humor struct me because I believe in those three things, and try to live my life according to them on a daily basis.
I loved the fact that he explained how living means way more than just getting up in the morning. my grandparents use to tell me that time after time and I never really understood it but now I do. I also appreciate the tips for aging right and preventing most of the aging stereotypes. His whole idea was to live life to the fullest and enjoy every minute of it because it goes by fast. He explains to live your life to the fullest you also have to have a healthy lifestyle and have fun.
There were two substantial lessons I took away from the video. First, the importance of maintaining a postive and healthy outlook on life. It is totally understandable because at the end of the day, who wants to be around a negative nancy? Optimism is crucial for building up a daily satisfaction of life, even when difficult times of grief, loss and financial burders strike. The second main lesson I acquired from the video is the importance of maintaining weight, as well as eating healthy foods. I guess since I’m at a youthful point of my life, I believe that I am able to get away with poor eating habits, because of how physically active I am. They say that poor decisions make during your time of youth will affect you in the long run. This is scary, but a realistic fact that convicts me to this day. I am glad that I had the opportunity to watch a video, which is full of wisdom and ideas that I plan to incorporate into my life as time goes on.

Art Linkletter was an extremely funny, wise and intelligent man. One of my favorite points in his speech was about how taking care of yourself starts with your thoughts and attitude. He points out that the perception that one has towards life and the events that happen in life greatly influence satisfaction with life. He says that positive thinking allows people to experience joy and the humorous parts of life. Art also explains that one when a person can change their thinking about life, it begins to influence how the person takes care of their physical self. This can manifest in other habits like diet and exercise. Mr. Linkletter really knew that one of the key elements to living a happy life was a good attitude.
He said multiple times in his speech that life was worth living. He empowered older people by saying that there was more to life than just simply breathing and surviving. He also used the example of his travels and career success to say that life is full of adventure and opportunity. He advised older people to focus on productive activities in later life like spiritual, mental, volunteering, and vocational activities. He says that investing in these types of things give meaning and purpose later on in life. They also can replace bad habits like isolated drinking and smoking. I love how Art demonstrated his positive attitude about life and the tips he gave older people to live life to the fullest.

Mr. Linkletter comprised a solid list of healthy habits to adopt that seem so simple! I especially enjoyed how he described his personal preferences in exercise methods. If there were a snow covered mountain within 100 miles of Abilene Texas I would be there in a heartbeat. Secondly, I appreciated his passion for positive thinking. Even if positive thinking didn’t lead to a few more years on this Earth, I absolutely believe it makes all of the grass greener. The line that lingers in my mind is to, “remain curious and challenged.”

I enjoyed listen to Mr. Linkletter talk. It was interesting that he got to speak at the White House and he has stayed over night at the White House as well. He spoke against drug abuse which is a big deal in today’s world because so many young people are doing drugs. Drug abuse is the number one health problem in the world. Mr. Linkletter Is well spoken and everyone seems to respect him for what he does. He started speaking in a church when he was younger. He was adopted by an older couple who were in their 50s. When He speaks he tries to send a powerful message to everyone about important things that go on in the world and try to help live a happy and healthy life. The 7 lifestyles are really important because we all need doctor visits and good means and enough sleep to live longer. Everyone should know if you don’t smoke or drink you will have a healthier life and can lower the risk of some health problems
