APP SUMMARIES

This app allows you to check off what you have in your house and the app will generate several different cooking options. The app will also allow you to see recipes that may only need one or two additional ingredients.

This app will have a list of recipes found on the web and allow users to also upload their own recipes to collaborate with. adding recipes may have certain promotional offers – like a coupon for an ingredient. Users can also rate recipes, so you can sort recipes by star number or closest match up. this app would also allow users to enter certain food allergies into their search results.

Users can also input certain cooking options that they have (stove top, oven, microwave, etc.) After you’re finished making a meal you can rate recipe. you can filter by time takes to make the recipe

spicing up a simple meals by using the spice it function on the app.

USER SCENARIO

Jim Halbert is a grad student on a tight budget. After a long day of classes Jim comes home to realize all he has left in his kitchen is chicken, eggs, bread and a few spices. He logs in with Meager Meals and he’s able to find a list of recipes that he can make with the contents of his fridge. Jim pulls up his kitchen inventory and selects the ingredients he already has. Jim is able to star key ingredients that he primarily wants to use. when he swipes away, his ingredients have been transferred to the search bar. Jim realizes he also has bread and olive oil, so he adds it in the search bar. Meager Meals provides Jim with a list of recipes that best match the ingredients the already has. The app lets Jim know he all the ingredients needed with a checkmark and the cooking difficulty. Jim chooses oven baked chicken because he has all the ingredients and its easy. He makes the meal and likes it. Jim is able to share it to Facebook and give it his own rating.

INTERVIEWS

Got a lot of “please make this app!”

In interviews, people asked how would the app know how to rate “easy, medium and hard”? maybe if you add your own recipe you have a series of questions to answer and then the app could generate the difficulty level? maybe have 10 questions to rate the difficulty level based on time required or specialized food utensils needed.

People also want to be able to mark recipes they were interested in without saving them to favorites so they don’t have to shuffle through all their interests to get to their actual favorite recipes.

Talk to 5 people about the app
– concern that there are too many things going on for one app, maybe it would have a sister app for messaging landlord/paying rent etc.
Generate 5 names

habitue- a frequent or habitual visitor to a place:

Look for current apps/websites that do this
– Lovely
– Cozy
– Zillow- allows for finding apartments and setting up viewings
Write brief user story
– Trulia rentals
realtor.com rentals- allows for finding apartments and setting up viewings
Write brief user story
– Hot pads- search for apartments in your area
These apps are centered around seeing available apartments, it doesn’t seem like there is much capability for rating landlords, and these are geared towards big cities, not for college students. I think what would make it unique would be to target college students, have renters have unique profiles, allow them to be rated as well as landlords
Most are geared to apartments

John and Susie have recently become empty nesters. They don’t really know what to do for friends at this point and they would really like to know how to have fun again. They’re only really hip with the young culture of their kids so they are looking for something more their age group. Nothing that houses loud music or tons of alcohol being thrown in your face. They would ideally like to find something close to home; not too far from the city if it’s outside the city. They would like to see familiar faces, but they’re not entirely sure what to expect. They’re just keeping their fingers crossed.

Interviewed people and they really like the idea. Wanted to know if there would be an age group option, something for sound level, spirits, foods, gps, and if it was different than a calendar app? Overall the people were pretty intrigued and wanted to learn more.

Joyce Myers – Joyce is a 32 year old working mom  from Dallas. She is married and has 2 daughters (3 and 5), and works as a nutritionist. She is in town for her sister’s graduation and Joyce is in charge of reserving a place to have dinner together with her sister and the rest of their family. While her daughters are well behaved, Joyce wonders if this restaurant has a family room offered so that their family can have some room for the kids to get up and walk around and some space to talk loudly. Joyce is also interested in knowing if the restaurant has a kids menu, since she isn’t sure if the children will eat foreign food, but wants some healthy options. Joyce is unfamiliar with Abilene’s road layout, so she is looking for a good map on the website, and hopefully one that connects to google maps.

Josh Anderson – Josh is a 20 year old college student at ACU from Austin. Josh has had Korean Barbecue before in Austin, and wants to go with his friends from ISA to this restaurant. Josh has a gluten intolerance condition, so he wants to see a clear  “gluten free” on some of the listed items. He is concerned about pricing since he doesn’t have a large budget, so he is looking for a daily or weekly lunch special. Josh is looking for a job currently, so he wants to see if they have an online application, or contact info. He also wants to look at the hours for this restaurant, because he can only work after 3pm.
