Anne-Marie Reflection
I am really happy that she talked more about the workplace more than she did about design itself. I knew that her experiences working in a collaborative space would overlap with the experiences I am hoping to have, especially since she was a recent graduate. I was also glad to hear about her experiences as a woman in the workplace as well. I want to be able to acknowledge the position that women are put into so that I can look out for ways that they can be on the same ground as a male co-worker. On occasion, I do wonder if my ethnicity will affect my employment, but I don’t think that is likely. A handful of artists who I follow on tumblr are non-caucasian and it gives me joy that studios look only at the attitude and talent of artists rather than their heritage.
I hope that we are able to have more speakers who are recent graduates in the working field. This day and age, it can be a rare find, but if the students who are graduating from ACU share her experience, it will be enriching to the entire art department.
Sarah’s Anne-Marie Reflection
I thought she was a really great speaker. Her passion for her job was an inspiration. When she was even talking about her previous job, her passion for her work showed that even though it was not what she wanted to do she put forth her full effort into work.
She brought me insight on certain aspects of the work field, especially the minor issues surrounding women. If some of the things that Anne-Marie brought up happened in my work place, I would have blown it off and simply thought that it was weird. Now that it has been brought to my attention, I can try to work it out so that I can personally combat the issues whenever I get into the workforce.
Anne-Marie Reflection
Anne-Marie’s talk was really good for us seniors/non-professionals. I enjoyed hearing about her experience as a woman in the workplace, and I also enjoyed hearing her talk about her drive, and how far that can get you in the real world.
Listening to her talk about being a woman in the workplace was interesting, because I have had moments like the one’s she has encountered, and I always figured that maybe if I were older, or more hard working, or if I spoke up more, than these moments where I am overlooked or looked down upon would discontinue. But, I guess that is just not the case. It’s just a case of workplace relations, and it’s something that companies and individuals all over the world are working on – like Dialexa and their women’s group meetings.
It was good to hear her talk with confidence about her job and the workplace in general.
