The Devil in The White City by Erik Larson is one of my new favorites! It’s the true story of an architectural genius and a serial killer. What more could you ask for? It centers around the design and construction of the Chicago Worlds Fair (World’s Columbian Exposition, 1893). One of the most fascinating characters mentioned is Frederick Law Olmsted, the landscape architect responsible for Central Park. The author often quotes him from original letters which are full of great design thinking. Most of the big names in architecture during the period are talked about in fascinating detail and insight. And if that’s not enough the psychopath will keep the pages turning. After reading check out the great pics on Flickr.
