Compassion, Justice and the Christian Life: Rethinking Ministry to the Poor, by Robert Lupton. This is a great book about urban ministry and community development – and the value of good design. Bob Lupton has been working in inner city Atlanta for over 30 years, and the book chronicles much of the lessons learned during that time. He presents alternatives to traditional means of caring for the poor and provides practical advice for developing communities based on interdependent relationships. Short chapters and a thin book, but full of great material for discussion and practice!
