The ACU Student AIGA group recently took 19 students on a trip to Dallas to visit 3 design studios:
- Me+You
- Foundry Collective
- Fossil
The AIGA students first met with an ACU alum who has been working for Me+You for several years and has worked his way up in the business. He sat with students in one of the corporate idea rooms to explain more about Me+You and his job specifically. This agency works with larger businesses such as Coca Cola, Verizon, M&M’s, Burt’s Bees,
and Pizza Hut.
Next, the students traveled to Deep Ellum to a small agency called Foundry Collective. It was founded by two designers who went to college together and now the design team has grown to a total of four, plus a new intern. They handle many many clients every year and are always working on new projects. They pick and choose who they want to work with and have their own unique style to offer to many in need. Their specialty is branding and logo design.
Finally, the students eagerly arrived at the Fossil Headquarters in Richardson. There, they met with the Art Director who gave them a tour of the building and a breakdown of all the many positions offered at Fossil. The designers here are in-house, and do not have any other clients like the first to agencies. They (of course) only design for Fossil.
Needless to say, the students learned a lot about the different kinds of design agencies and got a better look at what jobs in the field actually look like. We had a great time!
